Republicans: We need more GOD in government

Read Time:1 Minute, 28 Second

Remember those days?  Well the nutty Republicans want to return to those heady days of George W. Bush, and then some!  Read this:

The US House of Representatives will have a chance to vote on a resolution to affirm the phrase “In God We Trust” as the nation’s official motto after it was approved by the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Congressman J. Randy Forbes (R-VA), the founder and chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, sponsored the legislation. It would encourage the public display of the motto in all public buildings, public schools and government institutions.

He said he introduced the bill in January because he was troubled by a pattern of omitting God from the nation’s heritage.

“There is a small minority who believes America does not have the right to trust in God, who believes the United States should not affirm trust in God, and who actively seek to remove any recognition of that trust,” Forbes said.

The phrase “In God We Trust” was made the official U.S. motto in 1956, one year after the phrase “under God” was incorporated into the Pledge of Allegiance.

Critics of the resolution said it violated the establishment clause of the Constitution, which states that “Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion.”

“The phrase ‘In God We Trust’ does not apply to the more than 16 percent of Americans who identify themselves as atheist, agnostic, nonreligious, or unaffiliated, and it does not apply to religious Americans who do not have Judeo-Christian beliefs,” said Sean Faircloth, executive director of the Secular Coalition for America. “Branding our secular country with a religious motto only creates division among its citizens and erodes the wall of separation between church and state.”

Once agin I gotz ta skoolz youse lot. This is job creation people, job creation like Boehner said. Just look at how many buildings will need these signs on them. Yer not thinking here are ya? Not for nothing but if we add in the Allah, Jehovah, Yaweh(sp) and the rest of the gods, that could seriously add up to some coin one letter at a time. Oh wait, there is a silver lining. You knew I would see it admit it. Once the collective doofi figure out God shouldn’t be the only name up there, the heads of baggers might explode cooz you know who else believes in God, AYUP Muslims. That will be good tee vee machine watching that day. You are so very welcome.

So many important things for these guys to do and they have to waste time with this bullshit. Sorry but it just makes me mad.

Republicans are about as godless as they come, but the people who vote for them insist on good Christian values from their candidates, so they have to fake it to keep their jobs. Even Obama says “. . . may God bless the United States of America”.

First of all, the fact that they are even wasting time with this really irks me. Don’t we have more important issues on the table?!

Secondly, I want to respond to this: “…the Congressional Prayer Caucus…”

Why is there even such an entity? How is that constitutional?

Risa I have written at length about that ridiculous prayer breakfast. If that isn’t an example of God at the table with government I don’t know what is. I hate that Obama goes along with that crap but I guess there are some things you have to do to get elected. Politics is a dirty game.

Wow, happy to be in Canada right now. People have been trying to get god out of our anthem for years over here.

You think they would have learned their lesson when the general population voted in probably their worst president ever, George Bush. So many people blindly voted for him based on the fact that he was a “religious man”. All I’m saying is, if that’s how “god” runs a country, keep him down there; we don’t want him anywhere near Canada.

You do make a good point Alysia. It is true that America voted in huge numbers because Bush was a Bible Thumper. The Religious influence exerted on America is frightening.

I think it affected the polls more than we know. I remember hearing countless people say on tv during that election “I don’t know much about politics, but I know Bush is a god fearing man so he has my vote”

Seeing the stupidity and poor character of our leaders who love to wallow in godliness and the mess they have made of our country, I think “god-cursed” might be a more apt description than god-blessed.
