Bolivia to give Mother Nature same rights as humans
Clearly there aren’t a lot of Republicans in Bolivia, for if there were Mother Nature would take a back seat if she had a ride at all. It is clearly embarrassing that Bolivia, hardly a super-power, has taken a bold first step in recognizing the importance of preserving our natural resources.
In the United States we have the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) which the Republicans hate and want to defund. We have the clean air act, which the Republicans want to defund as well as the Endangered Species Act, which, when it comes to Montana, they have managed to destroy by removing the endangered Gray Wolf so that Montana farmers and ranchers, along with hunters and trappers, can kill them at will.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. There is more, much more, that the Republicans find offensive because their corporate puppet masters find these things offensive. So, I take my hat off to Bolivia, a country which clearly has better sense than the United States Congress.

Bolivia will soon put in place a first-of-its-kind law that gives Mother Nature the same rights as humans. The idea behind the Law of Mother Earth is to try to rein in pollution and the exploitation of natural resources, reports the Guardian. It grants nature several rights, including the “right to exist” and the “right not to be polluted.” In theory, a newly created ministry of mother earth will work with communities to help them monitor local industries.
But “it is not clear at this stage how the somewhat abstract legislation would be implemented,” writes Olivia Solon at Wired. “The state will need to be careful to balance the rights of nature with the regulation of industries (such as mining) that contribute a significant chunk of the country’s GDP.”
