Obama will veto Koch bros. Appreciation Act

Read Time:2 Minute, 15 Second

The following story stands on its own and no further context is required, as we know that the Republicans care nothing about the common man and everything about their millionaire fat-cat supporters.  Where you see a Republican seat in the congress you know it’s owned by big oil.  Here is the Raw Story:

The White House threatened Tuesday to veto a Republican-led measure that would block the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating certain forms of pollution.

“The Administration strongly opposes House passage of H.R. 910, which would halt the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) common-sense steps under the Clean Air Act (CAA) to protect Americans from harmful air pollution,” the White House said in a statement. “H.R. 910 would also increase the Nation’s dependence on oil and other fossil fuels as well as contradict the scientific consensus on climate change.”

“If the President is presented with this legislation, which would seriously roll back the CAA authority, harm Americans’ health by taking away our ability to decrease carbon pollution, and undercut fuel efficiency standards that will save Americans money at the pump while decreasing our dependence on oil, his senior advisors would recommend that he veto the bill.”

The bill, named “The Energy Tax Prevention Act Of 2011” and sponsored by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), is poised for a vote on the House floor Wednesday. It was approved by the committee last month.

“The very last thing the federal government should do is make matters worse by intentionally driving up the cost of energy,” Upton said in a statement. “Yet that is exactly what’s in store if the EPA moves forward with its plans to regulate and penalize carbon emissions under the Clean Air Act.”

The measure is expected to easily pass the GOP-controlled chamber, but its prospects are uncertain in the Democratic-led Senate, where an accompanying bill has been sponsored by Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK).

Lampooning the fossil fuel-friendly nature of the bill, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) suggested to the Rules Committee that it be renamed the “Koch Brothers Appreciation Act,” according to The Hill’s Andrew Restuccia — a reference to the energy conglomerate owned by billionaires David and Charles Koch.

Connolly also suggested such names as the “Middle Eastern Economic Development and Assistance Act,” the “Head in the Sand Act,” the “Protecting Americans from Polar Bears Act” and the “Oil Producing Economy Capitulation Act.”

If America continues to bend to the will of the Right it will no longer be able to compete on a global scale.  These corporate, evangelical toadies will ensure the demise of our infrastructure.  Let us know what you think.

As the Hopi Indians tried to explain so many years ago, that we are destroying Mother Earth, with our greed…so shall we race forward to complete demise! Sadly, I’m from Oklahoma and I really wish I was “from it”. lol Remember the old song, “Clowns to the left of me; Jokers to the right..Here I am..Stuck in the middle with you!”

I seem to recall somebody once said (and I have no idea who) that Communism is next door to Fascism. As far as I recall it was related to ‘if you’re so far left you’re almost right and if you’re so far right you’re almost left’

Basically, it means if you’re so far ‘extreme’ one way you virtually meet up with the other extreme.

I don’t think it’s ‘extremes’ anymore. Common sense is becoming increasingly ‘common’ amongst both ‘left’ and ‘right’ and suddenly they aren’t actually that far apart anymore.

Perhaps it isn’t ‘left’ and ‘right’ anymore. Perhaps it’s just ‘WTF are these idiots in charge doing?’

There’ll always be differences between ‘left’ and ‘right’ clearly…but perhaps the differences are becoming less important than our survival as a species?

Ah, my man, Inhofe. No question about who butters his bread. His toast is dripping with oil.

A fact C.H., unless he is really so stupid as to dismiss climate change. Ya think?

I think I’m having an epiphany here….the American ‘left’ seem to have far more in common with the English ‘right’ than you would believe!

Certainly there’s the immigration/politically correct issue which may pull us apart but, much of what the American ‘left’ say is extraordinarily akin to what much of the English ‘right’ say.

I’m trying to decide if this is a worry or not…;-)

I would be interested in knowing your conclusions, because it does appear our Hard Left is more aligned with the Right than the actual Left.
