How old is your TV?

The oldest working TV in Britain, which was manufactured by Marconi in 1936, is expected to sell for more than £5,000 ($8,000) at auction.

Electronic TV transmissions began in 1936 and machine was bought for almost £100 three weeks after the first live broadcasts.

The 75-year-old TV comes with a 12-inch screen and is contained in a walnut and mahogany case with the picture being reflected onto a mirror that opens from the top.

Mr G.B. Davis of Dulwich, south–east London was the first of only 2 owners of this particular TV. Mr. Davis paid over half the annual average wage of the day for the privilege of being an owner of this, soon to be, dynamic technology. At the time it was bought there was only one hour of television a day. And only one channel.

Television pioneer John Logie Baird and the Marconi company were responsible for the manufacture of the set which was created using Britain’s secret radar research.

Following John Logie Baird’s demonstrations in 1925 and 1926, the BBC adopted his system and began limited public broadcasts in 1929. The system was of a low quality compared to modern standards but it remained in use until 1936 when the BBC moved to a fully electronic system. Broadcasts continued until the outbreak of World War Two in 1939 and did not resume until 1946.

Upstart, never replace radio or movies, like the Internet, good for military use only
