Chief of IMF sent to Riker’s Island
We’ve all heard the old saying: money can’t buy happiness. Well, it apparently can’t always buy freedom either as Monsieur Strauss-Kahn can no doubt attest.
Here’s the story summary:
Dominique Strauss-Kahn is spending the night in New York City’s notorious Rikers Island prison after having been denied bail. The IMF chief, accused of sexually assaulting a hotel employee, will be in protective custody at the prison complex until his next court appearance on Friday, reports CNN. The Frenchman’s accuser picked him out of a police lineup Sunday.
Strauss-Kahn, whose new neighbors include 14,000 other people accused of or convicted of crimes in the city, was supposed to be discussing bailouts with European finance ministers this week but found himself at his own bail hearing instead, the BBC notes. The judge, noting that he was detained on an Air France plane minutes before take-off, decided he was a flight risk and remanded him in custody.

How Scott Pruitt’s 43K Phone Booth Was Seriously Illegal
It may be a fresh week for Scott Pruitt, but it’s not one void of uncomfortable headlines. ABC News reports a government watchdog has determined the EPA “violated section 710” of the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act when it spent $43,000 on a “secure” phone booth for Pruitt’s office.
