Keep Calm and Carry On
Always adroit at the art of the comic understatement, the British created the “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster in 1939 as a morale booster ahead of the existential hell the Nazis would rain down on their cities in World War II. It seemed to have worked.
Learning to keep calm in the face of crisis, real or imagined (mostly imagined) should be the prerogative of all humans. Those who can are the living embodiments of the mature human being well on the way to authenticity.
In those critical times in my own life when I have been tempted to rip my clothes off and sprint down the middle of the street screaming and frothing, I have learned to take a deep breath. I sit and feel the hormones being pumped out of my reptilian brain, washing over me and compelling me to run or face the danger and exterminate it. It comes in successively diminishing waves, and then it passes.
Then I think of naked women, and tell myself, “Keep Calm and Carry On–it’s not like it’s World War III outside.”

Hey if you listen to the fanatics the world is going to end a week from today anyway so what the hell?
Very interesting read Colin. I agree there is no need for panic. The very worst that could happen is for the world to end … and, you know, would that really be such a bad thing after all. Seriously, I just pull the covers over my head, scream very loud for ten seconds, and everything is all better.
My favourite way of keeping calm is to listen to this.
I sort of hate technology so I sort of identify with the song…besides she’s gorgeous. Stoned perhaps…but gorgeous…
Enjoy! – And don’t panic!
She does have a certain je ne se qua quality about her. I feel very calm after watching that video.
She is rather cute, in a strange sort of way. I am sure that Ted Kaczynski (The Unabomber) would find her subject matter really interesting.
My favorite way of keeping calm, is to run around waving my arms screaming “don’t panic . . . don’t panic.”
