Margaret Thatcher to Sarah Palin: don’t bother dropping by

Allies of former prime minister regard Palin, darling of Tea Party movement, as a frivolous figure unworthy of an audience

Sarah Palin wants to show to the Republican right that she is the true keeper of the Ronald Reagan flame by meeting the late president’s closest ally on the world stage.

A meeting with Margaret Thatcher in the centenary year of Reagan’s birth would be the perfect way of launching her bid for the Republican nomination for the 2012 US presidential election.

This is what Palin told Christina Lamb in the Sunday Times:

I am going to Sudan in July and hope to stop in England on the way. I am just hoping Mrs Thatcher is well enough to see me as I so admire her.

It appears that the former prime minister has no intention of meeting the darling of the Tea Party movement. Andy McSmith reported in the Independent this morning that Palin is likely to be “thwarted” on the grounds that Thatcher, 86, rarely makes public appearances.

It would appear that the reasons go deeper than Thatcher’s frail health. Her allies believe that Palin is a frivolous figure who is unworthy of an audience with the Iron Lady. This is what one ally tells me:

Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts.

Thatcher will show the level she punches at when she attends the unveiling of a statue of Ronald Reagan outside the US embassy in Grosvenor Square on Independence day on 4 July. This is what her ally told me:

Margaret is focusing on Ronald Reagan and will attend the unveiling of the statue. That is her level.

No doubt a rebuff from Thatcher will delight Andrew Sullivan, the creator of The Dish blog, who regards Palin as a dangerous lightweight.

Many thanks to the Guardian U.K. for this story and of course we would love to hear your comments regarding Sarah Palin and her upcoming trip to the U.K.

Interesting comments. Yes, the article is not about Thatcher but on an unnamed “ally.” No credibility there. Watch and see, if Palin gets to Thatcher’s neighborhood and she is healthy enough, expect a meeting. Also Palin was at the Revere home and museum and had just read about the history of the ride. Revere did not use lanterns, they were a signal to him. He did ride to Adams and Hancock to warn them about the British, thge rode about the area ringing bells and shooting to alert the colonists to hide their weapons. He was captured by the Brit6ish – and he did warn them not to continue their mission because he had already warned the colonists and their weapons were hidden and safe from seizure. The idiot newsman who made the clip was wrong in every aspect and it was obviously a hit piece. No revisionism needed. The facts were all on Palin’s side.

Sarah Palin earlier this week said that Paul Revere warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms … Following that, her nut case supporters repeatedly tried to revise history to reflect what Sarah said, by revising Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia. They tried so many times, that Wikipedia had to be locked down. Now, she wants to see Margarat Thatcher during a visit to England.
The British aides to Margaret Thatcher said that they “consider Sarah Palin as a frivolous figure, unworthy of such a meeting, as it would be belittling for Margaret; Sarah Palin is nuts, they said!” THE BRITISH DON’T MINCE WORDS, AND THEY GOT IT 100% CORRECT, SHE IS NUTS!

After how many years of failed Republican policies, the wrecking of the middle class thanks to Ronnie, the debt and transference of the wealth of America from many to few and we keep hearing the same old tired Republican nonsense. I assume they still believe in the flat earth, demons, angels, cupping, bleeding, torture, slavery and the right of kings…

The article is poorly titled. It should read “Marget Thatchers ally on Sarah Palin”. Go back and take an 8th grade writing class. And to Brenda, Obama is the laughing stock! Anyone who supports his bid for a second term should be ashamed and go ahead and openly admit they want to wreck the country.

Sarah Palin is a laughing stock and anyone who supports her bid should be deeply ashamed.

I don’t disagree with her statement but when she was the PM she was no walk in the park herself. Ideologically she was pretty close to Sarah Palin.
