Musings From The Edge: The Morass

Read Time:4 Minute, 32 Second

Every once in a while I just have to throw my hands up and say, “Enough”. “I have had all of the crap I can stand and it is time to tune out for a while.” It has gotten to the point where no one is making any sense anymore. There are just some talking heads, including the President saying things that other people are disagreeing on where the budget is concerned. Then you have the nutcases posturing themselves in the Republican primary yapping about things they haven’t a clue about. It is beyond ridiculous.

To begin with what idiot in their right mind wants our country to default on its debts just to make a political point. Remember, the operative phrase here is “in his, or her, right mind.” The answer is none because I have serious doubts that anyone in the Republican Party even has a mind, much less one to be right about. Eric Cantor stomps out of a budget meeting like a 5-year-old going home to tell his daddy that the other kids are not playing fair because they won’t play by his rules. One of these days I hope someone slaps that silly smirk off his face. He is literally the spoiled brat face of the Republican Party who believes that everyone who isn’t rich should just roll over and die so the rich people can just have their way.

Then you have all of the states whose voters saw the Republicans as their saviors in their time of need. The Repubs were going to get control of the economic problems and jobs would suddenly spring up everywhere. Well, now they have their Repubs but instead of creating a bunch of jobs their saviors have suddenly started focusing on social issues rather than economic ones. In Wisconsin Governor Walker was more intent on breaking the unions of the public service workers than he was in handing economic problems. Sure, he “said” it was about economic issues but when it was clear that there were no economic benefits to what he was doing, he continued his path of destruction. Then there is the rush in Kansas, Alabama and other states to push through bills to eliminate abortion and to put their states in the border control business, neither of which stands a real test of scrutiny of having any real impact on the economy in their states. In fact, Alabama had laid off 1200 teachers and then heaped on additional work to be accomplished by the schools because of their anti-immigration bill. Score another thoughtless adventure for the Repubs.

Finally, we have the real nut cases like Michele Bachmann who has declared she wants to be President of these here United States. She was quick to point out that she was not a “flake” and found that term to be insulting. She has advance college degrees in law and tax law which, I guess, means that she is too smart to be a flake. However, somewhere along the way someone forgot to let her in on some of the secrets of American history. Her gaffs are so ridiculous that they need not be pointed out here because they have been fodder for everyone on every TV program that currently airs in this country and even in other countries. Sarah Palin, her evil twin is running around trying to get whatever attention she can get even to the point of having made a vanity Docudrama about herself. It is really pitiful.

President Obama is still hopeful that congress will do their duty and do the right thing on the budget. I really like President Obama and think he is a good man. There are times that I wish he had spent a little more time on the mean side of the streets in Southside Chicago so he could be a bit more ruthless. But maybe that is why he is President and I am not. Of course, maybe Majority Leader Boehner caught him in the head with a golf ball in their outing and he is feeling a little giddy. Personally, I would not trust any of the Repubs around me with anything larger than a toothpick. But, I must say that he did, once again, as he has done before, throw down the gauntlet before the Republicans about the budget and the debt ceiling. I hope this time he sticks to his guns and doesn’t give away the store at the last moment.
As I said at the beginning, I have had enough of yammering back and forth. People on the right screaming one thing and people on the left screaming back. People like Uncle Miltie praising folks who would let the poor die starving in the street rather than give them a crumb off his plate. People on the left who are screaming at the President because he has had to make compromises to get what few concessions he has gotten despite the fact that for two years the Democrats in the House and Senate did nothing to support him. Everyone wants everything to be exactly their way. Well, for my part, it is time to let them fight it out because nothing I am going to say or write is going to make one damn bit of difference. It is time for me to drop out of politics and start thing about my poetry again.

Excellent writing and well done, lazersedge. It’s now officiel: lawyers people in laws school don’t necessarily need brains. I was so fed up with the political ping pon, that I had to sequester myself from the news for months.

And why don’t the Democrats back their own? Maybe we’re too busy talking instead of doing.

And why do I feel like Nero’s in the background somewhere fiddling and laughing?

To sum up the political madrass:

Whoever could make two ears of corn, or two blades of grass, to grow upon a spot of ground where only one grew before, would deserve better of mankind, and do more essential service to his country, than the whole race of politicians put together.

Amen, Lazer. I know the feeling. It’s like watching and listening to children argue, and it gives me a headache.

The big difference though Collin, is that with children you simply send them to their rooms. These big kids have media hanging on their every word.

Your poetry will make a lot more sense Lazer, I get so sick of politics, as I might have said to you before, it poisons the soul. We have to have politicians, why must they be so obnoxious?
