New study: Stop smoking-don’t gain weight
Stop smoking now
Smoking doesn’t keep you thin
I fought the nicodemon for years, decades actually, until I finally decided enough was enough. I knew that smoking made my breath reek, and my clothes smell, and I knew that when I walked by, all the non-smokers could smell my stink for yards along. Still I cared less, because I was worshiping the beast, the nicodemon, the smoker’s God.
I had convinced myself, that due to the probability of weight gain from quitting the demon, I was better off not doing so, because everyone knows that fat is not healthy. Of course I knew, in the back of my mind, that there is nothing more threatening to the body than entertaining the nicodemon.
Eventually, with the help of a short term supply of wellbutrin, and a strong desire to not stink, cough, and threaten the lives of those I loved with my passive smoke, I kicked the killers. It has been six years now and it was the best thing I have ever done for my health.
Read the story about yet another reason to quit:
For some smokers, the threat of weight gain is a deterrent to quitting—and now, scientists think have finally discovered the link between the two. Nicotine binds to receptors on brain cells, including those in the hypothalamus that tell your body when your belly is full, reports AP. Scientists gave nicotine to mice lacking that particular neural pathway, and the chemical didn’t contribute to weight loss as it does with most mice.
Quit cigarette smoking now and live longer without getting fat
The finding could help scientists find a solution to help smokers quit without seeing the numbers inch up on the scale. But the gain is usually only about 10 pounds—seemingly too little anyway to outweigh the benefits of quitting, like cutting cancer and heart attack risk. If gaining weight is a concern, however, researchers suggest using a nicotine-based method of quitting.
If you smoke stop now, because if you don’t you will one day wish you had. If I can stop smoking so can you.

I agree, I am a month and half going strong. No, weight gain. Actually the opposite, the extra energy and breath I have allows me to get more exercise. Cold turkey is where it’s at!!
Good for you Alysia! I quit 6 years ago and it is the best thing I ever did.
I quit years ago and I am sure glad I did, because it’s a horrible stinky habit.
