Although these ads are not what we would customarily consider “PC” by today’s standards, I was surprised at how clever, and humorous they were. I didn’t find any of them to be blatantly chauvinistic. Priorities and stereotypes of a common household have changed greatly over the past decades. These ads were playing to the demographic at the time, but not in such a way that I would consider them demeaning to women.
Vickie, you may be in a time warp.
It’s just a jump to the left. 🙂 I’m sorry if my progressive thoughts are uncomfortable for some. I just happen to think that there is a difference between what oppressed women and what was good marketing. As a liberal 21st century woman, I am not offended in the least by these old ads. They have some good points.
Don’t apologize to me. As far as marketing gadgets go they are great. But so was the Marlboro Man and the Virginia Slims woman. That don’t make me appreciate them though.
But Midol DOES help me be the me that he likes. 🙂
These look like ads Tengrain posts entitled “bad ads”.
Pure originality does not spew forth from a vacuum. Who’s Tengrain?
Sadly and painfully, I’m old enough to remember these. Will share.
(~sigh~) Me too. I guess Bachman should be spelled “Back Woman.”
Oh man, we have come a long way.
Not if you’re a Republican.
