In the wake of phone hacking scandal

major advertisers are dropping

Rupert Murdoch’s British publications

The phone hacking scandal surrounding Rupert Murdoch and the British arm of his publishing empire gets more shocking by the hour. First it was celebrities, then the Murdoch Sunday publication, News of the World hacked into the phone of a missing 13 year-old girl (Milly Dowler) and replaced her messages with their own, giving false hope to her parents that she was still living. The latest revelations are accusing Murdoch and his organization of hacking the phones of victims and families of the 7/7 terrorist attacks which left 52 dead across London. Advertisers are responding with their feet.

Ford UK announced that it was suspending all advertising with the Sunday newspaper – owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News International group. Major electrical retailer Curry’s and hi-tech companies PC World, T-Mobile, energy giant Npower soon followed. A major British bank, The Halifax pulled all it’s ads.

Twitter campaign aimed at all Rupert Murdoch owned companies

A grass-roots campaign on Twitter is putting pressure on all advertisers, large and small, to boycott all publications owned by Rupert Murdoch including The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sun. People are being encouraged to cancel their subscriptions in protest of the unethical way Murdoch’s publications operate.

Rupert Murdoch and his rotten empire is showing signs of decay and corruption, wonder if the ripple effect will make it’s way across the Atlantic?
