Other than a few die hard Roger Clemens fans, there isn’t anyone who likes Roger Clemens. And of all the baseball fans who hate Roger Clemens and steroids, plus the fact that his case for lying to Congress just got thrown out, I bet nobody hates it more than Mike Piazza.
Piazza was an offensive force for years. And he did it as a catcher.Tough position. But nobody will remember his numbers and how he hit more homers than Yogi Berra. We’ll all remember when Roger Clemens threw a broken bat at Piazza and Piazza didn’t at least make a half-hearted charge at him. Sports fans can forgive a lot. But being a sissy isn’t one of those things.

So when all Clemens crap went down I think Piazza was smiling over it. Getting what he deserves. Now Clemens isn’t getting anything. And seeing as how he helped the Yankees win the World Series, he’ll probably get a pass from New York sportswriters and get into the Hall of Fame. While Sammy and Mark and Barry don’t. And despite his numbers, maybe not Piazza. The pall of suspicion is on everyone from the steroid era. I could name at least two dozen players I’d bet the farm were using stuff that just have been fortunate to not have been outed by a disgruntled agent, trainer or batboy.
I’ll say this for Roger Clemens, he manages to come out on top. The Cubs sure could have used him.
