Nursing home prescribes marijuana to relieve pain

More progressive nations understand that marijuana is not the gateway to evil and readily prescribe it for pain and other conditions

America is not the leader of the world. That was a time long past and is especially true when it comes to medicine. The Hadarim Geriatric Home in Israel has been prescribing, gasp, medical marijuana to some residents with treatment-resistant conditions for some time now. They chose not to ignore the science and proceed with a course of treatment that is making life better for so many.

“What does it do? It makes me tranquil and less uptight. I’m able to take it easy, and I feel restful. Before that my hands were in pain, like someone suffering from Parkinson’s disease,” said one elderly man who was prescribed marijuana said. “It stopped after three months. My hands don’t shake anymore, and it’s totally different.”

The Israeli Ministry of Health has allowed the limited use of marijuana since 2008.

Why won’t America allow the use of Cannabis for such purposes? Are they afraid that the elderly will develop an overwhelming urge to start shooting heroin and hang out in cardboard boxes under bridges? Our conservative, and often idiotic view of marijuana is akin to the prohibition laws of the early nineteenth century.
