Tea Bag Bachmann Beats Mormon Mitt in Iowa Polls

Mad Michele Bachmann edges out Mitt Romney in latest Iowa poll

America has elected some real whackos.  Remember George Bush the Latter?  Who would think the voting public could beat that bad decision, but it appears they did, at least in Minnesota, where they elected the Queen of the Loons, Michele Bachmann, a super-religious tax lawyer who hates anything liberal and all things historical.

When she first burst onto the national stage on MSNBC’s Hardball, I thought she was just a flash in the pan, another nutty but inconsequential Republican candidate who would be hear today and gone tomorrow.  Unfortunately when tomorrow came she was still here.

As the presidential election rumor mill started heating up, and word of a Bachmann for President run was leaked, I laughed.  I mean come on!  She’s a nut job.  Who would vote for her?  Why other nut jobs of course, and there are a lot of them as evidenced by the latest Iowa poll.

Read this scary story from our Newser friends:

Watch out, Mitt: Michele is a serious threat, at least in Iowa. In a new poll of likely caucus voters conducted by conservative news website the Iowa Republican, Bachmann is leading Romney 25% to 21% in the state. USA Today notes that in a Des Moines Register poll from about a week ago, Romney was leading Bachmann by just one percentage point. In the new poll, both Bachmann and Romney are well ahead of Tim Pawlenty and Herman Cain, who tied for third with 9% each.

Bachmann has been playing up the fact that she was born in Iowa. (Of course, she wasn’t born in New Hampshire and she’s also gaining on Mitt in that state.) “While Bachmann’s lead over Romney is just within the margin of error, the poll’s cross tabs show how much momentum her campaign has generated in Iowa,” writes site founder and former political director of the Iowa Republican Party Craig Robinson. Click for the latest on Bachmann, who has been generating quite a few headlines.

I’v ealmost had to defend myself from people angry when I informed them that God, Allah, Yahweh, Jehovah, is the same Being.

I’m a Christian but I sure don;t take everything in the Bible literally. That’s the sign of a weak mind or a control freak. I also think it’s in bad taste to pray for investment advice or whether or not to buy something. God has better things to do with His time.

I pray for MadMike’s soul though. I need him to go to Heaven in case none of the other Heaven webmagazines will have me on the rolls. Webmagazine writer looks cool on a resume and an obituary.

My problem with Michelle Bachman is not that she’s a conservative(Frankly, I have no problem with conservatives). My problem with her is that she’s a true believer. I’m not talking about a true believer in conservative principles, I’m talking about that crazy book that we humans wrote that supposedly came from God. She believes in a literal translation of a book that claims that snakes speak, that the world was created in six days, and that our species was banished from “Eden” because of eating an apple (among other nonsense stories). She believes that we are living in the end times and that she will be among the chosen when the rapture occurs.
These are the same people who claim those that follow Islam are misguided, wrong or just plain insane. I’m sure it never occurs to them that the Jews, Muslims and Christians all worship the same God (or superman, as I like to call him). This woman who believes that this fictional Superman talks to her, wants to be put in charge of the most powerful nation the world has ever known.
What big decisions in our lives do we trust to someone who claims that God tells them what to do? Would you trust your investment advisor? How about your doctor? Maybe if your lawyer told you to plead guilty because God told him that it was the right thing to do, you’d go along with it. But for some reason, there are too many people who are willing to follow this woman who claims that God is telling her what to do. And the biggest problem is that I don’t think she’s lying.

I find it comforting that a religious conservative like Michelle Bachman is doing so well. While I still believe Romney to have the huge edge due to money and campaign infrastructure, a serious challenge from a Michelle Bachman would help keep Romney from veering too far from the right.

It’s not a bigotry against Mormans thing. I just think Mitt Romney isn’t a true conservative.
