Obama ’til Jesus returns

I’ll stick with Obama ’til Jesus returns

One of the churches I attend is Pentecostal. They’re a little exuberant for my tastes to attend exclusively, but I like the music and my mother has friends who attend regularly.

The Reverend’s favorite sermon topic is Armageddon. He goes into graphic detail about who will be Raptured, sad to say I don’t see very many here at MMA who have accepted Jesus Christ, so should the Rapture come soon I won’t be interacting here anymore. I’ll miss some of you. The Reverend really gets animated as he describes Jesus coming in glory to lead the armies of God against Satan in the great battle at Armageddon. Once He establishes His rule we will enjoy a thousand years of peace. Of course now that Libya has been liberated with no loss of American life and Bin Laden has been killed, the Republican Party has become the peace party. Wonder what changed?

This got me thinking about how we view government today. Particularly those on my side of the aisle. When Jesus returns we will have a monarchy with Him as absolute ruler. Yet so many such as Michele Bachmann proclaim their love for Him and for freedom and democracy. They go to great lengths to make sure Christian voters know they’re Christians. I always thought we would know they were Christians by their love, so somehow vilifying those who don’t share our faith rather than embracing them and showing Christian love would translate into more votes. Too many on the right, and a few left leaning, candidates seem to believe this.

Many have compared the Bush presidency to a monarchy. President Bush got just about everything he wanted and darn few complained while he was getting it. I didn’t agree with many things but I admired him for his steadfast leadership. So does the right really want freedom and less government? Or do we really want a monarchy with hopefully Jesus as king, but settle for whatever we can get so whoever is in charge can get his way. And hopefully his way is what republicans want. Which is ironic since President Obama has given us much of what we want including tax cuts and extensions as well as not rushing to leave Iraq and Afghanistan. As well as regulatory relief and keeping interest rates low. He’s not Jesus Christ but he’s not bad either.

So all in all, and considering the current crop of republican candidates for president, I can live with Obama until Jesus returns.

jesus returns,jesus-returns

You jump to conclusions Mr. Myste. I don’t know why you think Jesus is an unscrupulous thug either.

And you’re hunger may well be a hunger for something bigger than all of us. Something with the answers and understanding you seek. That something is God through His Son and or Saviour, Jesus Christ.

I suggest you look at the sky tonight in all it’s majesty, open your heart and let Jesus in.

Because I jump to conclusions. I actually meant His Father, so I was hasty.

And you’re hunger may well be a hunger for something bigger than all of us. Something with the answers and understanding you seek. That something is God through His Son and or Saviour, Jesus Christ.

No, I am pretty sure dead men were not what I seek.

My heart is completely open. I even allow homosexuals in so long as they don’t want sex. Jesus, however, keeps His distance. I don’t blame him. Were I dead, I would not stroll into someone’s open heart either.

@Milton

Sad to say I don’t see very many here at MMA who have accepted Jesus Christ, so should the Rapture come soon I won’t be interacting here anymore.

That cracked me up, coming from a Pentecostal background myself. If you get scooped up, I am going to throw my arms around your waste, because it’s my only chance.

I always thought we would know they were Christians by their love

This thought makes the absurd conclusion that the ability to love is reserved for Christians.

@Jenny40,

I don’t think Jesus was planted in a hole, but I agree that He passed away.

Milton said: You can put your faith in a broken system run by unscroupulus thugs if you want Jenny. I’ll stick with The Almighty.

What he means is: he chooses a single Unscrupulous Thug.

@Milton,

If I see Jesus return in the clouds, I am going to run for cover, and I strongly recommend you do the same. It’s not like seeing Him on a potato. That thing you intend to call Jesus? I don’t know what it is, but Jesus it is not, and it well may just be hungry.

John, the scriptures neither state nor imply that the ability to love is reserved for Christians. You came to that absurd conclusiuon on your own.
Should I be here when Jesus returns, I won’t be looking at the clouds, but about my Father’s business here on Earth. To many faces are turned Heavenward as it is. Should something hungry or otherwise lethal fall from the sky, nbd. ‘To live is Christ, to die, gain.’

Bradley,

You should have read the article. I did not come to that conclusion at all. The article said this:

I always thought we would know they were Christians by their love…

That implies that you will recognize Christians by witnessing love.

Next time read the article and don’t just look at the pictures, respectfully.

I read the article, and it, nor I implied. You inferred. And adding ‘respectfully,’ after your last comment isn’t really respectful.

The inference was only reasonable. I am an atheist, so obviously I don’t agree with it.

And adding ‘respectfully,’ after your last comment isn’t really respectful.

I have used the respectfully line a million times and you are the first person to call me out on it. I need a more subtle way to be disrespectful while telling the other person I am not. I guess I could just be more respectful. Seems like an extreme solution, though, unless it’s all there is.

Nah, just keep being yourself. I like you, John. You’re a good egg.

Thanks, and it’s a miracle! The first human egg! Glory, glory.

I’ll stick with Jesus until Jesus returns. The state of the planet notwithstanding, His direction of my personal life has left me with little to complain about.

If you want to stick with Obama until Jesus returns, Obama will be president for a long time.

My faith and my politics are separate Jenny. Obama has acted more responsible than what I think the field of Republican candidates and Congressmen have. Obama is more like Eisenhower and Nixon than Cantor or Boehner or McConnell.

I don’t necessarily trust him, but I’m more comfortable with him now than what my side is offering.

But in the interests of good debate, Chairman Mao was an athiest. You want him running things Jenny? Touche.

Aren’t you a Republican Milton? Well you’ve put your faith in those unscrupulous thugs, and they, in turn, believe in the Jesus. Rather circular defense don’t ya think?

Well since Jesus is never going to return because he was cross croaked and planted in a hole so I guess we could do worse than Obama.
