Time to just let Tiger Woods play golf

Tiger Woods is back playing golf

the media need him to win

It seems whenever sportswriters have nothing to write about, or readership is down, they all get back on the Tiger Woods saga. The lady from USA Today bashes Tiger at least once a week. The males sports reporters, especially guys like Bill Plasche or Skip Bayless have to show the world how morally righteous they are by decrying Tiger at every opportunity. Of course these two self appointed guardians of the sanctity of sports decry everything. Sissies.

The PGA has missed Tiger Woods

We treated Tiger like a rock star and he acted like one. When Mick Jagger talks about his exploits everyone smiles. Mick was married. Several times.

It’s time to let it go people. The PGA Tour needs Tiger Woods now more than ever. I’m a golf fan and I can’t even remember who won the Masters this year. And for another ten years winners of major golf tournaments will be thought of as less than worthy if Tiger Woods isn’t playing in them. Ben Hogan, Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus. They intimidated the hell out of the field. There are several others in the history of golf that also did. The only one that intimidates since 1997 is Tiger Woods. The tour needs him. The fans need him. Most of all, the media needs him.

All this being said, Tiger Woods jokes are still funny. Like when his ex-wife asked Steve Williams what club to use on Tiger’s head and he said a nine iron.

Or how many women does it take to satisfy Tiger Woods? All of them.

Or the time Tiger sliced the SUV he was driving into a fire hydrant.

Tiger Woods. The gift that keeps on giving to us writers.

Even non-golf fans know who Tiger Wood is, especially the girls who hang around in Times Square.

Who is stopping him from playing? His past is rarely discussed any more by most all reporters. The problem isn’t Tiger’s past, it is his present. Saying he was good for golf is entirely beside the point. What you want to do? Give him a handicap.

You are right the game of golf needs Tiger back in contention. The post round press conference after the second round really said it all. He plays to win because there is no other reason to play. Who other than Tiger is going to say it and live it? If he can stay injury free for 2011 to get his game back everyone on tour should be ready because 2012 will be the year of the Tiger.

I would like Tiger to just get back to golf again just because I enjoy watching him play. There is really no one on tour right now worth following.

Aside from the old jokes, I agree with you. It’s time to let the man play without always bringing up the past.

AMEN!!! The guy has taken enough abuse. Let him do what he enjoys doing, and entertain millions in the process.

Tiger needs to play in tournaments, week in and week out. He needs to get his stamina and game face back. He will win other majors in his career, I’m sure of it.
