‘Wonder Drug’ for cancer patients
Macmillan’s report, Move More, says that of the two million cancer survivors in the UK, around 1.6 million are not physically active enough.
Adult cancer patients and cancer survivors should undertake 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity per week, the reports says.
In the report, the American College of Sports Medicine also recommends that exercise is safe during and after most types of cancer treatment and says survivors should avoid inactivity.
Over 11 million Americans have cancer in the U.S. The American Cancer Society also recommends maintaining an active lifestyle to reduce cancer risk.

This from MOVE MORE
- breast cancer patients’ risk of recurrence and of dying from the disease can be reduced by up 40% by doing recommended levels of physical activity
- bowel cancer patients’ risk of recurrence and of dying from the disease can be reduced by around 50% by doing significant amounts of physical activity
- prostate cancer patients’ risk of dying from the disease can be reduced by up to 30% by doing recommended levels of physical activity, and
- After treatment all cancer patients can reduce their risk of getting side effects of cancer and its treatment by doing recommended levels of physical activity. These include fatigue, depression, osteoporosis and heart disease.
Cancer has touched us all in one way or another, nice to know we have a ‘wonder drug, that doesn’t come in pill form.

Jess, I think you’re thinking out loud is right on the money. So, not only are your chances of surving cancer greatly increased by excercising, but an overall fit and healthy lifestyle can be effective against a whole host of diseases, right? Won’t move one tubby turd off the Barcolounger until after the diagnosis of imminent death. This is Amuricah, after all.
A little bit of excersize, some healthy diet changes and Amerryca would be a much healthier place. It’s absurd what people do to themselves and then they think they ought to get free healthcare and rides to the hospital every tie they feel nauseous or short of breath.
i could solve the healthcare crisis in Amerryca!
Did you know that we can prevent breast cancer? We can get rid of this monster! Dr. Tuohy [Cleveland Clinic] developed a breast cancer vaccine that was 100% effective at preventing this disease in mice & can slow down the growth of tumors in mice. We need to fund further trials to see if it is safe & effective in women. Please donate to BHHF to fund these trials! http://www.breasthealthandhealing.org/donations/
Many thanks for this info, Vera. I’ll be keeping my eye out on news of this study.
Dr. Tuohy is researching autoimmune diseases including cancer. He completed testing on mice in 2010. His focus is on the antigen α-lactalbumin as a possible prevention of breast cancer tumors and metastesis.
Genetically cancer-prone mice were vaccinated—half with a vaccine containing α-lactalbumin and half that did not. None of the mice vaccinated with α-lactalbumin developed breast cancer, while all of the other mice did.
Dr. Tuohy still needs to conduct clinical trials on humans, expected this year. He stated If it works in humans the way it works in mice, this will be monumental. We could eliminate breast cancer.
The best news is that if this trial is successful, it could lead to similar studies for other cancers.
While I went through chemotherapy, I exercise four days per week. I firmly believed working out saved my life.
Excercise could be a wonder drug for all kinds of ailments but that is just me thinking out loud.
