Dr. Strangelove: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying And Love The Chicago Bears

Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

Is Week One to early to predict

this season’s Super Bowl Winner?

If anything was reiterated from Thursday night’s game between The Packers and Saints, it’s the importance of a stud quarterback if you want a winning NFL team. Aaron Rogers and Drew Brees showed us how it was done. And even though I think the Packers are the better team, the Saints still had a chance to win because they have a great quarterback who CAN BEAT YOU WITH HIS ARM.

And for this reason I think despite all the hype, the Philadelphia Eagles will not be going to the Super Bowl. Michael Vick is a great athlete. It’s wonderful he can run. But championships aren’t won by quarterbacks who run for yardage. Great quarterbacks that can run, run to find the open receiver. Mediocre ones run because they can’t. Sorry Philly. You’ll have another good run but in the end, a speedy defense is going to kill your hopes for a Super Bowl.

That brings us to what I think will be the surprise of the year. Too early to make a Super Bowl prediction. I’m waiting till tomorrow’s games, but I’m thinking about the Chicago Bears.

Jay Cutler has as good an arm as anyone. He’s got another year with Mike Martz. Head coach Lovie Smith has another year with Mike Martz. He probably needed it more than Cutler. The Bears have a great defense. The Packers put up over 40 points against the Saints. They got half that many against the Bears in last years playoffs. The more I think about it, the more I like the Bears this year. So yeah. Screw tomorrow. The Chicago Bears will be this years NFC Champions.

Enjoy your dream while you can Joe. It should last until about late November before it becomes obvious that “Da Bears” are just not ready yet.
