Ron Paul wants to help the poor – By abolishing minimum wage

Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

Ron Paul is the only GOP candidate

who wants to help the poor

and do it by abolishing the minimum wage

Last nights GOP debate saw front-runners Mitt Romney and Rick Perry gently sparring but saying nothing concrete, only one of the candidates on show offered any insight on what he would do for struggling Americans. Ron Paul said that Americans would “absolutely” be better off if the minimum wage was eliminated.

“Do you advocate getting rid of the minimum wage, would that create more jobs?” Politico’s John Harris asked Paul during Wednesday’s Republican presidential debate.

“Absolutely,” Paul declared. “It would help the poor people who need jobs. Minimum wage is a mandate. We’re against mandates so why should we have it? It would be very beneficial.”

“Mandates, that what the whole society is about, what we do all the time. That’s what government is about: mandate, mandate, mandate. We talk so much about the Obama mandate which is so important, but what about Medicare? Isn’t that a mandate? Everything we do is mandate. So, this is why you have to look at this, the cause of liberty. We don’t need the government running our lives.”

The current minimum wage in Texas is $7.25 per hour, (some States pay above Federal mandate), a breadwinner supporting a family of 4, would earn $15,080 a year working a 40 hour week. The poverty guideline in Texas according to the Center for Public Policy Priorities is $19,350, So, before Ron Paul abolishes the minimum wage, a family of 4 is already $4,270 below the poverty line. With help like that who needs starvation.

A person supporting a family, or just oneself, on a minimum wage is poor, the working poor. Abolishing the minimum wage would create poorer poor people. Ron Paul is clueless.

Let’s be logical, people. Let’s say I don’t have a job, and as a result have no income. Let’s also say I don’t really have a marketable skill, education, or much experience. It will be much easier for me to earn SOME income if a business will hire me to take care of menial tasks at a low rate of pay. Aside from the chance to earn a little money, it also presents an opportunity for advancement into higher paying positions. Instead of being worried about your minimum wage job dropping your salary if this happens, let’s think about the people with 0 income. I’m sure many of them would jump at the chance to have a steady job paying 6 bucks an hour. If you don’t want it, if you think you’re too good to work for that amount of money, don’t take the job or put yourself in a position where this wouldn’t be an issue.

“What if the government set the price of milk at $20 per gallon. Does that benefit the person who gets the $20? No, because the demand for milk would go down. Most people will only pay around $5 for milk.
Same thing with setting the price of labor. The demand for laborers who are worth $3/hour goes down when you are forced to pay them $8. The government destroys demand with its threats of violence against peaceful people, and creates unemployment.”

So abolishing the minimum wage such that poor people earn less is one step closer to slavery. Hey, abolish the minimum wage and all wages and convert those workers to indentured servants — then bingo, no more unemployment!

As an added benefit, slave labor will reduce outsourcing abroad; putting our country back on the extreme RIGHT track.

No one will be forced to work for less than they deem appropriate. If you don’t want to come sweep my store out for $3 an hour, then don’t, I’m sure there are others who could really use the money and are willing to work for it as opposed to wait for a government handout.

Idiots.
Ok, what’s closer to slavery?
1) you being able to work for $4.50 an hour. (freedom of choice)
2) the government saying you can’t work for $4.50 an hour and they will dictate if you receive any income. (communism)

Think before you speak. Vote for Ron Paul. Stop bashing a politician who is trying to help your dumb ass.

A typical Paulsamic. Has no idea what the minimum wage is these days, and likely no idea about much else.

Obviously Ron Paul is big on business, and lacking in sympathy for the individual. Abolishing the minimum wage is asinine.

Obviously, you have not read any of Dr. Paul’s stances on the issues. Passing a massively generalized judgement like that is asinine. Yes he is big on the free market as opposed to the government in many situations, but the individual is ALWAYS the priority.

The Republican Party does not acknowledge the “working poor”.
If they are poor then they cannot be working, right?

The right-wingers- politicians and pundits-love to trot out the statistic that 47-50% Americans don’t pay income taxes. And they say this with derision rather than shame.

No Holte, actually Ron Paul is not clueless. He is saying exactly what all the other Republicans are saying except in a more direct way. He wants to keep the vast majority of America poor so that those with wealth, like him, can rule over them. That is the ultimate goal of all Republicans to have have a three tiered, caste society with the poor carrying the grunge load, a low middle class managing them, and the the rich reaping the rewards.
