Obama team to use old photo to paint Romney as anything but middle class
Here’s the Old Bain Capital photo that Mitt Romney will no doubt come to seriously regret.
The Boston Globe got its hands on this old photo from Mitt Romney’s days as founder of Bain Capital and it is only a matter of time before it starts showing up in attack ads everywhere. No doubt the Obama team was delighted when this surfaced and who could blame them.
The Globe reports that the picture was taken during a photo shoot for the company’s brochure. After the official photo was taken, Romney and his Bain associates hammed it up for this memorable shot, a decision Romney surely regrets now that he is running for president amid grim economic times and a burgeoning anti-Wall Street movement. It certainly puts his comments about being “middle-class” into a new light.
With Occupy Wall Street building momentum across the US and even the world, the White House has decided to make that anger a central line of attack against Mitt Romney and the Republicans in the 2012 election, reports the Washington Post. “One of the main elements of the contrast will be that the president passed Wall Street reform and our opponent and the other party want to repeal it,” says adviser David Plouffe.
Whether OWS protesters will go along is another story. “The fact that Obama has been so close to Wall Street makes this tough going for him,” former Obama aide Van Jones tells the newspaper. In a sign of the anti-establishment sentiment at OWS rallies, the Post notes that none other than civil rights hero Rep. John Lewis was denied a chance to speak in Atlanta. The White House strategy, though, makes it a safe bet that this this old photo, spotted by Business Insider of Romney with his Wall Street buddies will become a familiar sight.
