People you might know that appeared on Star Trek

A king, renowned scientist, wrestler, and many other famous people and character actors had roles in the Star Trek franchise. Can you name them?

The long-running Star Trek continuing mission has lasted over 40 years and launched the careers of many famous people. The original television show also spawned 11 featured films—even inventions. (Think cell phones, iPads.) The large, ensemble cast and multiple plot lines over the year include at least 25 famous people and character actors, most of whom appeared in minor roles.

So far, there have been six television series: “Star Trek,” “Star Trek: The Animated Series,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Voyager,” and “Enterprise.”

  • Wallace Shawn best known for playing Vizzini in “A Princess Bride,” was Zek the Grand Nagus of the Ferengi Alliance in “Deep Space 9.”
  • James Worthy, three time NBA Champion, played Koral, a Klingon mercenary and smuggler, in “The Next Generation” in the episode, “Gambit: Part II.”
  • Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) played a duplicitous, fish loving Antedean Dignitary in “The Next Generation” episode, “Manhunt.”
  • Andrea Martin, actress and comedienne, plays Moogie, Quark ,and Rom’s Ferengi society defying mother, in the “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” episode, “Family Business.”
  • Stephen Hawking plays himself in a game of poker with Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein and Data in the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” Episode, “All Good Things…” Hawking currently holds the position of Lucasian chair of Mathematics at Cambridge University, a position formerly held by Sir Isaac Newton and, and letter held by Data in future scenes of “All Good Things…”
  • Seth MacFarlane creator of “Family Guy,” American Dad,” and “The Cleveland Show,” appeared in two cameos on “Star Trek: Enterprise” as a Starfleet officer.
  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson extremely famous wrestler and actor, played a Pendari champion (a kind of gladiator) in the “Star Trek: Voyager” episode, “Tsunkatse
  • Iggy Pop played Yelgrun, the Vorta overseer working for the Dominion, in the “Deep Space Nine” episode, “The Magnificent Ferengi.”
  • Bryan Singer, director of “X-Men” and “X2,” appeared as a tactical officer in “Star Trek: Nemesis”
  • Christian Slater plays a night duty officer in “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.”
  • Kelsey Grammer of “Cheers” and “Frasier” played Captain Morgan Bateson, a captain of the Enterprise whose ship was stuck in a time loop, in the “The Next Generation” episode, “Cause and Effect”
  • Ken Jenkins, most known for his role as Dr. Bob Kelso on “Scrubs,” played Dr. Paul Stubbs in “The Next Generation” episode, “Evolution”
  • King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein of Jordan played a non-speaking role when he was still just a prince in “Voyager” episode, “Investigations.” [That’s right: a real king.]
  • Kirsten Dunst, best known for playing Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man films, played in “The Next Generation” episode, “Dark Page” when she was 11-years-old.
  • Kirstie Alley of “Cheers” actress and noted Scientologist, made her feature film debut as Saavik in the “Star Trek II: The Wraith of Khan” movie.
  • Jason Alexander who played George on “Seinfeld,” played “Kurros” in the ” Voyager” episode, “Think Tank.”
  • Christopher Lloyd best known for his role as “Doc” Brown in the “Back to the Future” trilogy. “Cheers,” and Uncle Fester in the “Addams Family” movies, played Klingon Commander Kruge in the film “Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.”
  • Ashley Judd played ensign Ensign Robin Lefler, a love interest and friend of Wesley Crusher, in two episodes of “The Next Generation,” “Darmok” and “The Game.”
  • Terri Hatcher played Lieutenant B.G. Robinson, a transporter officer who is seduced by a rogue, in the “The Next Generation” episode, “The Outrageous Okona.”
  • Sarah Silverman Rain Robinson in two episodes of “Voyager”—”Future’s End” Parts 1 2.”
  • Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave played uncredited officer in “Insurrection” and a crewmember in a “Voyager” episode, “Good Shepard.”
  • Kim Catrall made famous by “Porky’s” and “Sex and the City,” played Valeris in “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.”
  • Kurtwood Smith, best known for his role as the father in “That ’70s Show” and “Dead Poets Society” played several roles in “Star Trek.” He was the Federation president in “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country,” Thrax, Odo’s predecessor in the “Deep Space 9″ episode ” Things Past,” and Annorax in the “Voyager” episode “Year of Hell” Parts 1 2
  • James Cromwell played multiple roles in the Star Trek franchise. Most notable was his performance as Zefram Cochrane in “Star Trek: First Contact,” the first human to create a warp drive.
  • Nikki Cox , best known for her role on the sitcom “Unhappily Ever After,” played Sarjenka, a little girl on a doomed planet communicating with Data, in the “The Next Generation” episode “Pen Pals.”

You forgot Tony Todd of ‘Candyman’ fame. He’s played the elder jake sisko in DS9, a Klingon and the alpha hirogen in the voyager episode ‘prey’

I was a hardcore Star Trek junkie all the way up through Voyager.
