The dumbing down of Mitt Romney
After watching with bemusement my republican primary candidates call each other liars in the last debate, I have come to the realization that these people must believe all republican primary voters are idiots.
Rick Santorum can’t go one sentence without reminding us of his faith. Michelle Bachman almost came to tears as she said she was a mom and would be the voice for mothers in Washington. Married Christian moms that belong in high tax brackets I imagine since she votes to cut aid to single mothers along with spreading false rumors about vaccinations.
Rick Perry babbles like a small child on a long car trip. Nothing he says makes sense. He wouldn’t allow Romney to make sense as he spent most of the time interrupting Mitt who’s main campaign talking point since 2008 is that he’s a conservative despite being (formerly, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt) pro choice and pro government mandated health insurance.
Herman Cain has been the darling of the party, if not the media, for repeating “999” every third word. Then sending us to a website to explain it in further detail which I haven’t found as of submitting this article to MMA.
The three that made the most sense were Paul, Huntsman and Gingrich. Huntsman, because he had the good sense to stay away from this circus. And Gingrich and Ron Paul because they proved they were the smartest of the bunch. What’s sad for my party and America is that none of them has a chance in Hades to win.
I still believe Romney will be the winner. I wish he didn’t feel the need to dumb himself down and borderline apologize for any of his past actions. I’d much rather make the healthcare law work, and he has the experience to know what worked and what didn’t, to lead that effort. Yet, in his zeal to appeal to people who think Michele Bachman and Rick Perry are presidential material, he says he will repeal Obamacare. Or he will leave decisions on Iraq and Afghanistan to the military. Last I heard the military was supposed to be under civilian control. When we get to vote for general I’ll change my thinking on that.
The trouble with Romney though is the same I feel many democrats feel about President Obama. Is he sincere? Or will he move to the left to get his agenda, at least a semblance of an agenda wih catchy legislation titles passed. I really don’t know. I do know that I do not want to have a beer with Romney or Obama. (I don’t use alcohol anyway. Neither does the Morman Romney) And I don’t care who does other than if someone is so shallow, or a candidate is so shallow and unqualified that he must use something like that to get votes rather than substance, ideas and character, I don’t want to vote for him. And pity us all that so many base their voting decisions on things like this.
I’m a Canadian who follows American politics. When I listen to Republican candidates I shake my head and thank logic & reason that I am a left-leaning Canadian. But, I’m keeping a close, suspicious eye on our Prime Minister Harper who is starting to remind me a lot of Republicans. I really miss Jack Layton of the NDP. We could have been world leaders down the road with him. Just spewing my coffee morning antics.
Your “spew” is most welcome here as is your viewpoint. Please come again.
I think Romney would try to please the populace and that may not good in the long run. This group of republicans are the biggest bunch of nuts I have seen in one place in my lifetime and if the Republican Party is judged to be just like them, it may be good for America.
Are you sure they are not representative of the Republican Party?
It seems the party hierarchy wants someone other than Romney. I guess it’s because people that aren’t rigidly republican think he’d be okay.
Other than Huntsman if we have to be saddled with a Rightie I would go for Romney.
