We are our brother’s keeper: Why I’m voting for Newt Gingrich

Read Time:1 Minute, 39 Second

I came to a decision watching last night’s Republican debate. I’m voting for Newt Gingrich.

This may come as a shock as I’ve attacked Newt for his philandering ways, but after last night I’m convinced he was the one person running for the Republican nomination that actually puts compassion, a trait God admires, (whatsoever you do, for the least of my brothers) to work in supporting amnesty for long time illegal aliens and their families.

Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann, two people who constantly remind us of their faith, attacked Gingrich for his stand that showed compassion and good judgment. And the truth is it’s a testament to the greatness of our nation that the oppressed and hopeless want to come here for a better life. I wish there were more resources so qualified applicants for visas and citizenship could come here and contribute to our nation’s growth. Turning us into a gated country club and throwing out thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, of people who came here for a better life for themselves and their families is neither Christian or American. Calling for it is a pander to bigots and the uninformed.

Newt Gingrich may well have cost himself a few votes among the rank and file Republicans with his sound stance on immigration but I believe he’s gained far more than he lost. Those of us who are Christians need to see what the Bachmanns and Romneys are saying that puts them at odds with our faith. Add it all up and see who the real Christians are and not just the ones who talk about it, but support policies that are compatible with it whether or not the republican primary voters may agree with them or not.

It takes courage to tell the flock they are wrong when it’s far easier to tell them what they want to hear.  Newt Gingrich displayed that courage while Romney, Bachmann and the rest failed.

No he’s not because he acts like a fool more often than he acts like a statesman.

LOL! They do don’t they?

Well, I would agree. Newt and Ron Paul would be the best of the current crop of clowns, but they’re still Republicans. Just sayin’.

No prob. I don’t like them either. I also agree that Huntsman has said a few things that I actually found to be sensible. At least he’s not a wide eyed lunatic like Bachmann. I’m just saying that although Obama has indeed disappointed me, I still see him as the only game in town. This because ALL the Republican entrants are Social Conservatives to one degree or another.

I don’t even have that big a problem with Old School fiscal Conservatism, but I’m really scared of being ruled over by a Bible beating Sosh-con.

Huntsman is the only one who lives in the REAL world. That doesn’t say much for American politicians.

Mr. Flip-flop. The man is scarey in that he has no morals and is unscrupulous. However, although I voted for Obama, I could not vote for him again. It can’t get worse that a Commander in Chief who tries to play both sides of the aisle, and is extremely reluctant to stand and fight. Hopefully the next four years will fly by, and if the earth is still inhabitable, a real person with fortitude, commitment, intelligence, vision and compassion will step forward.

I am a cancer survivor. I will never forgive New Gingrich for dumping his wife for his mistress while she was in the hospital suffering from cancer.

Although Huntsman doesn’t have a chance of winning, the GOP will make a grave mistake if they give the nod to Newt.

I agree with Bill. I have seen little consistency in his platform. Make no mistake: he wants to cut Medicare and food aid to children. (First, ketchup is a vegetable, and now pizza is a meal?) A full 20% of the children in this country live in poverty.

From a Christian standpoint, Gingrich undermines the beliefs he proclaims:

On the last day, Jesus will say to those on His right hand, “Come, enter the Kingdom. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was sick and you visited me.” Then Jesus will turn to those on His left hand and say, “Depart from me because I was hungry and you did not feed me, I was thirsty and you did not give me to drink, I was sick and you did not visit me.” These will ask Him, “When did we see You hungry, or thirsty or sick and did not come to Your help?” And Jesus will answer them, “Whatever you neglected to do unto one of these least of these, you neglected to do unto Me!”

The following was posted on his campaign site:

…we must give our seniors more choices than the current one-size-fits-all Medicare model. Both concur that creating the opportunity for seniors to buy private insurance is the key to both improving care and lowering costs.

The one key difference is that under Newt’s plan, as outlined in his 21st Century Contract with America, seniors will also have the choice to stay in the current Medicare system or choose a private insurance plan with support from the government to pay the premiums. The other difference is that Newt believes that seniors should have this option starting next year, not in ten years.

Privatization does not work. Gingrich wants to line the pockets of insurance companies in the guise of “choice.” I was not fooled in the late 90s; I am not fooled now.

It doesn’t seem like he wants the least of us to be fed.

I’m with you. Huntsman is the only valid choice.

You make some very good points Milton but you must remember that Newt’s word is not very reliable (just ask his previous wives). During the primary process Newt has sent some confusing messages from cutting us seniors out of medicare to cutting off food aid to children to protecting the rich (since he is rich).
