What really happened to Natalie Wood?
Ever since I read about the Natalie Wood case I had my suspicions and as I learned more and more about it, I often wondered if it shouldn’t be revisited.
I even went so far as discussing it with an LA County sheriff’s commander years ago at a conference and he agreed with me that the case should be reopened, telling me there were a lot of unanswered questions.
As a result, I was pleased to hear that the investigation has been reopened. If nothing else the questions that have surrounded the case for years might get answered.
Here’s the summary:
Los Angeles County homicide detectives have reopened an investigation into the 30-year-old mystery of actress Natalie Wood’s death. The star’s 1981 drowning was ruled an accident. But her last evening, which she spent on a yacht with husband Robert Wagner and movie co-star Christopher Walken, has long been the subject of speculation. Law enforcement officials have now decided to take another look at the case after receiving fresh information, and they plan to interview the boat’s captain about comments he made about the case recently, the Los Angeles Times reports.
In the captain’s book Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour, he recalls that on the night she drowned, Wood was drinking and taking Quaaludes with Wagner and Walken. An argument erupted between the two men, apparently over Wood, followed by shouting between the couple in their room—and thumps, according to the captain. He says he was later told “Natalie is missing” by Wagner, who allegedly refused to let him call the Coast Guard. The captain’s co-author, Marti Rulli, has been in touch for months with police, reports TMZ. An investigation at the time determined that Wood apparently fell into the sea after attempting to climb into the yacht’s dingy or trying to secure it. Wagner has issued a statement saying he supports the new investigation.
What are your thoughts? Do you think Natalie Wood may have been murdered?

secret sorry =/ I have a friend who is terrified of water and anyone that knows someone who is or is afraid of water themselves know that there would be an unlikely case of them traveling in a tiny boat in the middle of the night. There have been holes in the story from day one and hopefully we will learn the truth of what happened that night! It’s to bad that it has taken this long to get the 3 key witnesses actually talking instead of trying to profit from this tragedy. If it comes out that the three of them lied and came up with a story then obviously it was not suicide or an accident and there is and has been more to this story.
The captain of the yacht is talking and he’s talking a lot. His story is most interesting, and it wouldn’t be the first time someone was killed because of jealousy.
I think Robert and Christopher know what really happened and have kept a good secret for several years!!!
I agree Cher.
Maybe I’m too cynical, but it seems weird the timing of this corresponds with the opening of West Side Story on Broadway (a signature role for Natalie Wood).
Wow! Excellent observation Liz. It is a strange coincidence indeed.
That boat captain wrote a book about this years ago, 2009 maybe? Anyway I read that he had a lot of suspicions about the case.
I absolutely felt that there was some unanswered questions. I hope justice is served and the truth comes out. I think her husband is responsible.
