Florida Family Association, Lowe’s, and Islamophobia

Read Time:3 Minute, 28 Second

The Florida Family Association hates a lot of television programs. Anything having to do with Muslims, sex and/or the LGBT community enrages them. Or him, since the director of FFA, David Caton, is the only paid staff member.

He has attacked “Degrassi“, “The Girls Next Door“, and now has The Learning Channel’s “All American Muslim” in his sights. As of today, over 60 advertisers have caved to the FFA and pulled their ads from “All American Muslim.” At the head of the pack of cowards and bigots is Lowe’s.

Lowe’s Home Improvement’s slogan is “Let’s build something together.” Perhaps in their haste to build something, they dropped a hammer on their collective heads, because this, at first, seems like a horrible idea. Promoting Islamophobia by giving in to a group heralded by paranoid Muslim hater Pamela Geller would be, in many people’s opinion, a truly poor business decision. We would be wrong. Below are some of the comments from Lowe’s Facebook page.

Wesam A: Lowes should pull its ads from BET cuz African Americans r the decay of our society.

Brian H.: So you support terrorists like the family of the program does? (In response to another post calling Lowe’s’ decision a bad one. Brian has the Lowe’s sign as his profile picture.)

Alotta T: Stop by your local mosque and pay your jizya, dhimmi. You are already bowing to CAIR, you might as well be a good dhimmi. (Jizya is a tax, dhimmi is a non Muslim subject.)

Jo W.: Never shopped much at Lowe’s in the past, however, I am a new enthusiastic customer!!!

Katie H.N.: You should be ashamed of yourself. I hope you are never a victim of discrimination. (One of the few against Lowe’s’ decision.)

Jo W.: And Katie, I hope you never lose a loved one to a Islamic fundamentalist who deems his life unnecessary.

Erin N.: (me) Jo, I almost lost a loved one in the Oklahoma City bombing, but I don’t hate all white men. Try again.

Dea H.: (This is my favorite) We commend Lowe’s for their choosing to spend THEIR advertising dollars on American values. Lowe’s has a right to disagree with the oxymoron American Muslim. And our family has a right to spend our money at a store that stands up for American values……as we will.

As of this morning, Stock Nod listed Lowes as a “strong buy”. Lowe’s’ stock went up after their advertising choice became public knowledge. There are other companies who have pulled their advertising as well, including Estee Lauder, Wal-Mart, Sears, General Motors, Green Mountain Coffee, Bank of America, Campbell Soup, Goodyear and McDonald’s. All because of an email form found on the Florida Family Association website. The FFA claims that they had 700,000 people send this form out to the companies that advertise on “All American Muslim.” That’s a lot of hate.

Timothy McVeigh was not a Muslim. He was a militia supporter with a strong belief in conspiracies who at one time had been a devout Christian. Byron Williams is not a Muslim. He is a follower of Glenn Beck, Alex Jones and wanted to start a revolution by killing people at The Tides Foundation. James W. von Brunn was not a Muslim. He was a white supremacist who murdered a security guard during a shooting spree at The Holocaust Museum. And yet, we do not hate and fear all white men.

The Florida Family Association has a statement on their website that outlines why they despise “All American Muslims” so vehemently. According to the FFA, the show is “clearly designed to counter legitimate and present day concerns about many Muslims who are advancing Islamic fundamentalism and sharia law.” What’s interesting is that groups like Florida Family Association, American Family Association, National Organization for Marriage and The Family Research Council are already promoting fundamentalism in America. But it’s Christian fundamentalism, and as Bill O’Reilly said after fundamentalist Christian Anders Breivik murdered 77 people, mostly children, in Norway, Christians never kill anyone.

I am going to say exactly what I said elsewhere the other day about this.
What gets me about all of this. Always but always, you hear the cries of “where are the moderate Muslims” from the Teabangelicals. When a show about yeah, regular people who happen to be Muslim show up, it’s all about they are terrorists and they shouldn’t be on the tee vee machine let’s get rid of them. I swear you cannot win for losing with these cretins.

Where are these dangerous Muslims? I don’t know any although I do know a few dangerous Christians. Thanks a lot for another great read.

I don’t know. I had a Muslim babysitter when I was little. She wasn’t dangerous at all-she let me braid her hair. Her brother was dangerously gorgeous, but I don’t think that means the same thing. 😉

Another extraordinary job Erin. This has changed my view of Lowe’s. Unfortunately I already dislike Home Depot so I few options.
