Random Ramblings of a Christian Fanatic on Christmas Morning.

Read Time:1 Minute, 41 Second

I passed brother Owl this morning as he hunted in a meadow near the trail. He told me my family is safe, the only spirits around them are good ones. Running thru the mist, the puddles along the trail still crusted with ice.

Fresh coffee will be waiting when I get home. Coffee is a small carrot held in front of me as I trudge along at my 10 minutes a mile pace, a 160 lb defensive back running with the speed of a 300 lb offensive tackle. My breathing capacity has recovered enough to become mere heavy panting, an improvement from the gasping after cresting the first hill. I’d chanted Hail Mary’s and Our Fathers to keep my knees going. Another hill approaches – time for the bigger carrot. I rely on my ancestors.

Come on brother, bring the medicine to them. The Pipa need the spiritual medicine, the ghost medicine. Come on brother, for the Pipa.

We all suffer, to a degree. All people – who is to judge what is worse? Only He can do that. The Holy Virgin Mary cried as her son Jesus was crucified by the Romans. The Holy Virgin Mary cried as her children were crucified by the Spanish.

Another hill.

Come on brother, for the Pipa. Reach your hand out, brother. We got you.

The Holy Virgin Mary, young and kind, spoke Aramaic in Nazareth. Fifteen hundred years later the Holy Virgin Mary, young and kind, spoke Nahuatl to Juan Diego in the Valley of Mexico. Who but God could do this? How silly not to believe in Him!

Almost sunrise. Breathing thru my nose again, pulse slowing as I walk to my car. Christmas morning. My babies are safe, He watches over them.

Dancers in La Iglesia de Nuestra Senor de Guadalupe, the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Windsor, California honoring the Virgin Mary. Merry Christmas to all of you !

I don’t miss him. MadMike used to schedule my posts right after Oso’s all the time. It was like following Sinatra or Streisand. Who’s gonna give a rat’s ass about mine after one of Oso’s masterpieces.

What I tried to capture (and you guys understood)is the kind of simple faith that some people have.Non-judgmental but something they almost casually accept, and which can bring them serenity. Doesn’t have to be a deity, it may be nature or some act they perform. Such a person happy with their faith would share if asked but otherwise is unconcerned with what others do, and would not condemn those who are different.
I wish I could say I was like that, I have the faith and don’t condemn but am only serene on rare occasion!

I tend to blame that failing not on myself, but on the liberal media.

I agree Oso, I blame the liberal media also, but more than that, I blame unicorns and leprechauns.

To the degree that the media is liberal, thank God (if there is a God).

Leave it to you to turn this metaphysical on me. I am over matched in this case and must now turn my king on its side.

I’m sure most can find something in there that they believe in or that they can’t. But what we find is not important. What is is not so much what we believe, but that whatever we do or don’t believe is authentic. This is.

Authentic and open minded to the possibilities, I would add.

Thanks, guys. It was fun to write, runners high and oxygen deprivation do wonders for letting the mind run free!

Hope you all had a nice day with family and friends, or with your own thoughts and dreams. Sleep well!

Ha! That was wonderful, Oso. “The Holy Virgin Mary cried as her children were crucified by the Spanish.” An incredible bit of history, all of that, and the birth of La Raza. Merry Christmas! And with that said, I am back to punishing the fruit of the vine I’ve been nursing for a few hours now.

I don’t believe in the divinity of the Virgin, nor the Son, but I do believe in the power they have over people, for better or worse.

Very nice piece, Oso 🙂

OK, Jess. You are all over the place, but do you post original articles? I am trying to find them and I am little disappointed that they are so hidden. I want to see what you look like (electonically, that is).

Nope, I don’t write as well as any of you guys. I go where the talent is and feed off it by leaving comments. I’m not everywhere, I have certain blogs I visit regularly and it seems all the same people go the same places.

Funny, I do the exact same thing, but I often don’t even leave a comment, because, screw those talented people!

Jess, you underestimate yourself. Exchanging ideas makes one think and is the very essense of great writing. And you have excellent insights.

Excellent! It was a very entertaining story. I don’t believe in the Virgin Mary, which makes not believing in her Son a tad easier. However, I was taken to a place faraway as I read, and I felt chills, as I suspended disbelief. I love stories of faith, when they are well-written, which is seldom. You remind me of someone I never knew. You were long overdue, my friend.
