Windstream Communications Network Crashes Failing Millions of Customers

Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second

Windstream Communications is a local telephone and wireless provider. With headquarters in Little Rock, Ark., Windstream is an S&P 500 communications and technology company with operations in 29 states and the District of Columbia and about $4 billion in annual revenues.

Windstream provides IP-based voice and data services, MPLS networking, data center and managed hosting services and communications systems to businesses and government agencies, except when it doesn’t.

The company also delivers broadband, digital phone and high-definition TV services to residential customers primarily located in rural areas and operates a local and long-haul fiber network spanning approximately 60,000 route miles, except when it doesn’t.

The communications provider, founded in 2006, and one of the fastest growing in the nation, is not providing much communications today, at least not their broadband service.  It has been down for over 12 hours.  Trying to contact them is an exercise in futility as the phone lines have been busy for hours. Scenario: There are sick people in your home and your phone stops working, totally unrelated, and you try to call your Windstream phone company but can’t even get through.

Fortunately, I have a personal hotspot through my cell phone provider which allows me to write this. Otherwise I would be unable to access the internet because I rely on Windstream Communications to allow me to communicate.

As for Windstream, I can only hope you get your act together.  It’s unusual to see such a disruption in service and I hope it won’t be repeated anytime soon.  In the meantime, please get it fixed.  Oh, and while you’re at it, please take a long and hard look at your technical support staff.  You’ve got a few who shouldn’t be talking to people at all, much less people who are stressed out over losing their internet connections.

Mike,
My Windstream connection came back up about 9:30 a.m. Don’t know why yours hasn’t yet except that maybe you live in a highly congested area and I live in the sticks so maybe the lack of people here has an affect on their speed. 🙂

Corporate bastards. They were probably so busy paying themselves they didn’t bother to do the appropriate upgrades to their systems.
