Educating Newt!

Read Time:1 Minute, 36 Second

I’ve been listening to the controversy over Mr. Gingrich’s handling of race and I wish he would start talking about what we can do to provide equal opportunity–not handouts, just equal opportunity–for those willing to work for it.

Improving inner-city schools would go further than encouraging students to apply for janitorial positions in their own under-funded districts.

An investment in “all” children’s future is an investment in the strength of the nation.  If “we” (those more privileged) wouldn’t want to send our kids to certain urban schools, there’s something wrong with demanding more from those who are stuck in those schools. Why wouldn’t we send our own children there? Concerns for their safety? Their future?  The nation should be disgraced that we’re willing to accept that any children have to exist in conditions that we wouldn’t want for our own children.

More standardized testing was not the answer.  Equalizing funding across school districts and having a different kind of quality assurance for the schools would be the way to go.  If there’s anything I learned from being in management, it’s that organizations run best when people are accountable to those below them on the organizational chart.  The question shouldn’t be “how can we best hold students accountable,” but rather “what can we do to best support students, and best support instructors in their role of supporting students?”  Until we develop a genuine focus on the student, we will continue to “leave children behind.”

We’ve done little for these communities aside from waiting on the sidelines, watching for failure from those who have been set up to fail, and then sending in police to clean up the mess. We’re getting to the point where the costs of our prisons are burying state budgets, and yet the root issues remain unaddressed.  An investment in these schools would be an investment in the safety and prosperity of our nation.

G.L. you are one of the smartest people I know but trying to educate the Newt is like trying to teach pigs to sing. It will only frustrate you and annoy the pig. 🙂

You put that straight on the button with your thoughts and such, because I think the man is an idiot complete, but knowing that he really isnt. His arrogance will do him in and you nailed that nice.

Newt Gingrich is a despicable human being and another embarrassment to the GOP. You’ll not succeed in educating him I’m afraid as many have tried and to my knowledge none have been successful. Very good article. Found it on Reddit.
