Glenn Grothman: Single parents are child abusers

Wisconsin State Senator, Glenn Grothman (R), is promoting a Bill that suggests single parents are a contributing factor in the abuse and neglect of children. One third of parents in Wisconsin are single parents.

An effort to recall Grothman failed last year. He probably sees that failure as political capital, hence the insane wording in Bill 507.

Section 1. 48.982 (2) (g) 2. of the statutes is amended to read:
48.982 (2) (g) 2. Promote statewide educational and public awareness campaigns and materials for the purpose of developing public awareness of the problems of child abuse and neglect. In promoting those campaigns and materials, the board shall emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect.

Section 2. 48.982 (2) (g) 4. of the statutes is amended to read:
48.982 (2) (g) 4. Disseminate information about the problems of and methods of preventing child abuse and neglect to the public and to organizations concerned with those problems. In disseminating that information, the board shall emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect.

Genuinely concerned Wisconsin voters were protesting peacefully and occupying the state Capitol building in Madison last year. The protesters were angry about Governor Scott Walker’s moves to crush everything that didn’t favor big business. Governor Walker had a strong ally in Glenn Grothman, he called the largely Democrat crowd “slobs.”

This is how politics is, Grothman took an oath to serve all the people of Wisconsin, then called half of them disrespectful names. Hard to believe that Barack Obama won in Wisconsin by 14 percentage points in the 2008 General election. Obama’s win fired up the bigots and the 2010 mid-term victories across the country gave them confidence and power. Surely the time is coming to take that power away.

Without knowing for sure, I am assuming that the majority of single parents in Wisconsin are women. Just another example of the GOP and its war on American women.
