In Arizona “God Enriches” unless you need birth control

Read Time:3 Minute, 25 Second

Representative Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) has decided that her great state needs a little more fascism and a lot less uppity women on the Pill. Rep. Lesko is one of the sponsors of Arizona HB 2625, a charming piece of legislation that would allow employers the option of denying insurance coverage to women who use birth control to prevent pregnancy.

If a woman uses it to control cysts or as medically prescribed by a doctor for anything other than birth control, the employer could not deny coverage.

What this means is that if Jane Smith wants to get a job in Arizona, and this bill passes, she would, during her interview perhaps, have to tell her potential employer if she takes birth control. If Jane Smith does, she would then have to either admit it’s only to prevent pregnancy or one would guess have to give the potential employer a note from her doctor, outlining exactly why she’s using birth control. When the potential Nazi…I mean employer…discovers Jane Smith is a whore and a trollop who is having SO MUCH SEX that she needs birth control, he does not have to hire her.

Isn’t that nice? Jesus, Arizona, you’ve already got Governor Brewer waving her finger in the face of President Obama like the Wicked Witch of the East, you’ve got Sheriff Joe”Birther”Arpaio and now you want this? Are you trying to rekindle the good old days of 1812, when women married at the age of 15, had 10 or more kids, some of those still born, couldn’t vote or work (well, except as “dance hall girls”) and often died by age 30?

Ditat Deus is the state motto of Arizona. It means God Enriches. It seems to most of the sane people left in America that God forgot to enrich the Republican party with a heart, a brain and courage. The yellow brick bridge they are burning is not going to “nowhere”, it’s going to the not so distant future, November, 6th, 2012 to be exact. On that day, sane Americans will remember Arizona and Mississippi and Alabama and Fox news and Rush Limbaugh and we will remember that Republicans will save a fetus but starve a child so billionaires can keep their tax breaks. We will remember that Republicans want to turn our nation, founded on the core principal of freedom of religion, into a theocracy. And we will remember that Arizona Republicans wanted to make it legal for an employer, not just a religious group but ANY employer, to look at a woman and call her exactly what Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke-a slut.

We will remember all this in November, and we will take our frustration and our rage and our passion to the voting booths, and you, Republicans, will be out of a job. Get those resumes together, because there are more of us than there are of you. The Quiverfull families aren’t going to save your sorry asses, nor the Dominionists nor the Fox news sheep nor the 700 Club viewers. We are liberals, Democrats, sane Republicans, Independents, men, women, straight, gay, black, white, Hispanic you name it. And we are not putting up with this anymore.

As Dorothy Parker famously said when asked to use the word horticulture in a sentence, “You can lead a whore to culture, but you can’t make her think.” Despite all the crowing and whining and screaming from the right, it’s not we who are the whores. It’s the far right Republicans who sold their souls to Bryan Fischer and David Barton and the rest of the fringe fundamentalists in exchange for their votes. Dorothy Parker was right. We can’t make them think, but we can shut them up, shut them down and fire them in November. And we will.

RickRay, BitcoDavid, BillFormby – damn. I love you guys. Thank you for speaking up. And BitcoDavid…I can’t help but wonder – why are men so fearful of women? Another question, more rhetorical and I don’t hold you guys responsible for answering, just putting it out there – I’m a born feminist and would be happy for just equality…why are so many men interested in dominance? What the hell’s wrong with equality? And I mean equal rights, equal respect, equal dignity and right to dignity, equal pay for the same work…that kind of stuff.

Hi Carol. In all honesty, I think what women don’t get, is how bad we need and want you. All physical, of course – and I’m sorry to be so crude about it. Back in the days when people didn’t fix their animals, most of us could watch the mating rituals amongst the different species. As a kid, I would watch packs of dogs go at each other, while the female sits there like a judge at a tennis match. She had complete control over the reproductive activities, and it was she who would choose the appropriate male.

With all our trappings of civilization, I don’t think we’ve really come very far from that. Guys will still do anything they can to impress women, and women will still bathe in the pampering. And that’s OK. That’s the way it’s supposed to be.

On the other hand, women should certainly be paid equally for equal work. They should have the same opportunities men do, in all fields. They should be treated fairly in the arena of health care – and in the end analysis, it is the women who bear and raise the young, so decisions regarding offspring should be completely within the female purview.

Look at felines. Once the male has done his duty, she kicks him out of the den, and… well… that’s that.

Even in simple biology, we’re taught that the dominance of genetic traits is passed down from the female parent. Which is more significant? The lock or the key? I’m a male – even a bit old fashioned and macho of one – but there’s no getting around logic. We’re the dunsels in the equation. Sorry, guys.

Due to this, men feel more comfortable with other men. When my wife and I bought our current car, she paid for it. She had gotten a small inheritance, and she paid for the car outright. No financing. So, we’re at the sales guy’s desk, finalizing the deal. My wife opens up her purse, takes out her checkbook and writes a check which she signs with her name. She hands the guy the check…

…He shakes my hand and says, “Thank you Mr. *BitcoDavid*”

I was oblivious to this whole thing. My wife was livid, but until she pointed it out to me, I really had no idea. You need to be on the receiving end of this stuff, before it impacts you.

Last but not least, As MadMike’ll tell you. I like to fight. I’m a boxer and a martial artist, and one of the few people out there who actually does like to fight. In a lifetime of actual fighting, I have had numerous opportunities to fight women. I’m here to tell you that anybody who thinks males are inherently superior in strength, speed, stamina or tenacity – is just plain wrong. Some of the best fighters I know, are women.

Well said! I do enjoy the fact that my husband brought me 3 boxes of Belgian chocolate from his recent business trip to England, and I love the fact that he and I are equal in our marriage, in the finances and the decisions.

You’re right about women being fighters. We don’t “girl fight” anymore, we just punch you until you stop moving.

Erin, I hope women, particularly those of the Republican party will remember this in November when they are in the privacy of the voting booth. The trend so far in the Republican primaries really scares me though. The Republican women are “Stepford” wives.

BTW – I should like to add that in most non-Human social structures, the female is not only the boss, but physically and mentally superior in every way. This is because we’re merely the sperm donors. It is she who births and raises the biologically all important offspring. Amongst the insect kingdom, it is not uncommon for the female to kill the males, immediately after fertilization has taken place.

Republicans don’t realize just how lucky we are, not to be Preying Mantises. You get yours, and she rips your head off.

Erin. Perhaps the picture touches on the reality of the problem even more than you know. The woman is holding a box of “Magnum” sized condoms. When men and women go condom shopping together, he invariably reaches for those. She’s the one who says, “No, dear. You need these dinky ones, here.”

I wish women realized that most men live in constant terror of them. In truth? We’re scared, and perhaps just a little bit envious. We need to be raised in a social structure that tells us we’re better than you, because innately, we don’t believe it.
