New York Knicks Head Coach Mike D’Antoni Quits

The New York Knicks have had better seasons, and better coaches, as it turns out, because Mike D’Antoni has decided to head for greener pastures, or just maybe out to pasture.

Amid a tumultuous stretch where the Knicks have lost six games in a row, finding themselves on the outside of the playoff picture looking in they are no looking for a new coach and no one seems to unhappy about it.

Assistant coach Mike Woodson will take over as interim coach until a replacement is found.

After the gilded stretch of Jeremy Lin-inspired “Linsanity,” which seemed to momentarily quiet calls for D’Antoni’s position, the team went on a free fall. Chemistry issues between Carmelo Anthony and the rest of the team became more prevalent over a stretch where the Knicks dropped eight of 10 games.

The report said that it was a mutual decision that came down to “conflicting visions of the club’s future.”

Knicks assistants Dan D’Antoni and Phil Weber were also dismissed.

Though Anthony threw his support behind D’Antoni as recently as today, denying reports that he wanted to be traded before Thursday’s deadline, numerous reports said that the two had been butting heads. An ESPN report today suggested that the team had all but tuned the coach out entirely.
