The first was a reminder of the old phrase that any publicity is good publicity. This was said in one way or another by guys ranging from PT Barnum and Oscar Wilde to Branch Rickey and Lady Gaga. And although Tiger Woods might disagree with this, it’s true.
Even more powerful is the new rule of thumb concerning Tim Tebow: anything Tebow is good publicity. Look for more press conferences from the Jets backup quarterback.
Speaking of Tebow, his press conference reminded me of something I advised one of my candidates when I was advising candidates. Whenever a republican is stumped or made to look like a fool, he/she always invokes either the flag, families, God or America. I advised my candidates to do the same thing. I figured if we could make God our talking point we couldn’t lose.
Tim Tebow must have good advisers because he always invokes God, and people who love God love Tim Tebow, and Tim Tebow loves them.
Inevitably some idiot reporter asks Tim about his faith giving him more opportunities to invoke God. The Jets receivers will also be invoking God while trying to catch the goofy knuckle balls Tebow throws at them.
Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will be invoking God when talking about the general manager who signed Tim Tebow.
Jets coach Rex Ryan will be praying Mark Sanchez doesn’t get hurt forcing him to insert Tim Tebow as starting quarterback.
The most fortunate in this whole thing are the Denver Broncos. John Elway thanked God the day he signed Peyton Manning. He thanked Him again when the Jets took Tim Tebow off his hands. The rest of the teams in the AFC West said “God#damn!”
