What took ProFlowers so long to dump Rush Limbaugh

Quicken Loans, Sleep Train, Select Comfort (Sleep Number), Citrix Systems, Legal Zoom and ProFlowers have all suspended or outright pulled their ads from Rush Limbaugh’s radio program as a result of an offensive comment, with ProFlowers being the most resistant. Hundreds of people emailed Pro Flowers, including me, and prior to their decision Sunday, this is the response ProFlowers sent back to consumers:

“Thank you for your feedback. We spend our advertising dollars across a wide spectrum of media channels. The views and opinions of the media outlets and personalities we advertise with are not necessarily those of our company. We simply wish to delight our customers with fresh and unique gifting products, and that will continue to happen to the best of our abilities. Best Regards, M Yolanda Douglas, Customer care.”

ProFlowers has suspended their ads, as of Sunday, but what took so long? Well, perhaps their lack of customer service has something to do with it. Funny thing: both our own Mad Mike and my husband, Jim have had negative experiences with ProFlowers. Mad Mike ordered a floral arrangement for his mom, which never arrived, and Jim used ProFlowers for a bouquet for my birthday and they enrolled him, without his knowledge or permission, in some sort of monthly club. In fact, before my husband used them and ProFlowers scammed us out of a monthly charge for three months, I’d never heard of them.

Spring is right around the corner, Easter is in a few weeks, and then Mother’s Day is upon us. If you prefer to use a florist with great customer service, no hidden monthly fees and a backbone, I have a few suggestions. ProFlowers may have “suspended” their ads, but that initial email tells me this won’t be a very long suspension. Here are florists my friends, my family and I use, with great results:

1) 1-800-FLOWERS. I used 1-800-FLOWERS exclusively for my mom’s birthday and Mother’s Day. I love them. The arrangements arrive exactly when promised, and they’re gorgeous. Customer service is amazing; one of their representatives actually created an arrangement for me, Photo Shopped a picture and emailed it to me. Who does that? I love 1-800-FLOWERS, and I love them even more now that they have Fair Trade products.

2) Organic Bouquet.com. All organic flowers, and some of the most stunning roses I’ve ever seen. Lilies, daisies (nature’s smiley face!) and roses of every color under the sun. Lavender, sunset, dusky pink, white and bright yellow. Comparable pricing, but call or visit the site to make sure.

3) One World Flowers.org. All I can say is wow. One World Flowers sells numerous bouquets that donate a proceed of the sale to a charity or cause. The most beautiful of these is the Helping Haiti Fair Trade Rose Bouquet. Gorgeous roses, and when you purchase this arrangement, 10% of the sale goes toward helping Haiti. Beauty and a heart-you can’t beat that.

4)FTD.com. FTD now sells Fair Trade flowers. Most local florists use FTD, and this is extremely helpful for people who want to be certain their purchase is environmentally sound while using a florist close to home. FTD always has lovely floral arrangements, and because you’re working with a local florist, you can really personalize your bouquet.

For people who may not know what “Fair Trade flowers” are, a quick primer. Fair trade flowers are sustainable, are typically grown with chemical herbicides or pesticides and help farming communities thrive. Fair trade farms also encourage women to take on leadership roles and pay for maternity leave. It’s a win-win.

This spring, as our minds turn to fragrant, colorful flowers-roses, lilies, daisies, gardenias-use your consumer power to send Pro Flowers a message while supporting fair trade farms and florists. I can’t think of a more lovely accessory than a bouquet of flowers that might help change the world.

Uh… nice endorsement for 1-800-FLOWERS, except for the problem that they STILL advertise with Rush.

Limbaugh has learned to never use the tactics of the enemies of America. If he decenda to their level, he is no better than they are.
One day, people will learn that communism only works for those in command. They will use any means at their disposal to destroy this country. If Limbaugh is to continue the fight for Liberty, he must reject the hatered that comes from the left. Truth and morality is the only tools that can save America now.

I hate proflowers. Once I ordered roses for my fiancee and they sent a box of candy instead. When I complained they said they would send the roses but because the chocolates had been opened I would have to pay for them.

Rush is getting a well deserved schooling on basic human decency, but will he truly and honestly learn anything?
