Since the We Are Warriors video debuted on Mad Mike’s America, we have heard from hundreds and hundreds of people. Men and women, straight and gay, black and white, liberal and yes, conservative, all of whom are planning to join us in Washington, DC on April 28th. And we’ve heard stories about why people are marching.

One woman told me the story of her older sister who died from sepsis after a “back alley abortion.” Other women are sharing stories of domestic violence, sexual assault and molestation, taking their inner warrior to the streets of DC. Men who were raised by strong, powerful mothers are incensed at this new GOP war on women and vow to help fight to the end. Members of the LGBT community who realize that if the new GOP bulldozes one group, they will bulldoze us all have contacted us, ready and willing to stand shoulder to shoulder.

We’ve even heard from conservative women, women who watched the Komen fiasco with horror, suddenly realizing that the new GOP had lied in November of 2010 when they were elected to create jobs. They haven’t created one damn job, folks, unless you want to be an ultrasound technician or a fake pregnancy counselor. No jobs. What they have done is go after social issues with a vengeance. Gay marriage, birth control, abortion, religion are all the new GOP talks about, day in and day out. Save the fetus, starve the child. WIC, food stamps and basically every safety net for the poor in America are in their sights, and they will not stop until only white, Christian, conservative men rule the country.

And now we have Rush Limbaugh and his “slut” and “prostitute” comments. He’s only saying what the rest of the new GOP is thinking, you know. They all believe we’re sluts and whores and lesbian witch child killers who hate capitalism, men and all that is good with the world. They believe this because women, in the world of the new GOP are just supposed to shut up and take it. Shut up and get beaten, shut up and get raped, shut up and get molested, shut up and stay pregnant, shut up and GET pregnant, over and over and over again. Don’t go to college, says Rick Santorum. Life begins at conception, says Mitt Romney.

The new GOP is about to find out, first hand, that the American people are not going to shut up and take it. When we arrive in downtown Washington, DC, on April 28th, the new GOP will realize that they have just lost and lost big. We are not weak, we are not powerless and we demand to treated fairly and equally. We demand that our rights not be violated by some right wing Dominionist fantasy of a patriarchal society. We demand to have access to health care, we demand that we marry the people we love and we demand that crimes against ALL of us are treated the same. My friend, James Hornik, was raped, but told by the investigating police that a gay man “can’t be raped.” Bullshit. Anyone can be raped, gay, straight, male or female.

To pull this off, we need volunteers. We need people to help with hotels and lodging, we need people to help with signs, banners and t-shirts. We need people who have time and energy and are fed UP with the war on all of us. There will be links posted at the end of this article if people would like to contact us and use their talents to help make the March on Washington DC a roar that is heard around the world.

We want to know why you are marching on DC this April. Share your story with Mad Mike’s America, let us know why you decided to join us this spring. We’ll see you there!

I have watched as the government has chipped at the rights my mother fought for me to have. I have watched as women have been slut-shamed again and again by men who run this country. I have watched as people have denounced women’s sexuality while upholding the idea that men’s sexuality is a right.

I am done watching.

I am marching.

I am marching against the idea that women are second class citizens.
I am marching against the idea that our bodies are owned by the populace. I am marching against the idea that our sexuality is a thing to be controlled. I am marching for my mother. I am marching for my daughter. I am marching for me. I am marching for all of us.
