The magnificent pit bull, much maligned by the ignorant and much abused by the evil, saved a life by demonstrating loyalty and courage.  These are the stories that should be making bigger splashes in the news, not the occasional bite by dogs most likely to have been improperly reared by uneducated or unwitting adults.

A courageous dog saved the day in Staten Island when he helped scare off a home invader and survived a bullet to the head, reports the New York Post. The drama began when a burglar disguised as a FedEx deliveryman tried to break into Justin Becker’s apartment. Becker threw the man to the ground and wedged him into the doorway. Kilo, Becker’s 12-year-old pit bull, then leaped into action. That’s when the would-be burglar shot him and fled.

Becker took Kilo to an animal hospital, where X-rays showed how the bullet ricocheted off his skull and exited his neck. Kilo is now at home with a cone around his head and on painkillers with instructions to rest up. “This is like, one in a million,” says the vet who operated. “He’s very lucky.”

I would ask that people not believe the lies.  The American Pit Bull is a loyal and loving companion and doesn’t deserve its unkind reputation.

Thank you for passing on this story! So nice to see positive press for pitties! We have two and they are lovers, not fighters. I would trust them with my life.

I had a pit for 13 years when it died of old age. He looked just like Brutus as a matter of fact. I love these guys and one of these days soon I will have another.

Poor Kilo, having to wear the cone of shame for leaping to the rescue. There oughta be a law against that, for such a noble dog.
