Just How Important Is This Election?

Read Time:3 Minute, 30 Second

How important is this presidential race? Well that depends on who you are, how much money you have stashed away, and where you stand on certain social values. On the one hand the choices in this election cannot be more clear cut, at least at first glance.

Mitt Romney is basing his whole campaign on one thing. He contends that the knowledge that he gains as a business man makes him uniquely qualified to understand what it takes to get the economy fired up and running so that the unemployment rate drops like a lead balloon. Now to the average person that does seem logical because he is constantly relating horror stories he hears from business people about how regulations are stifling them from being able operate at a profit and to increase business and hire more employees. I mean, if I am unemployed and this multimillionaire is telling me that if he gets elected and removes all of the regulations then businesses will suddenly start hiring everybody that walks in the door. Hell, what good are regulations if I haven’t got a job, right?

Well Bucko, let’s stop and break that down just a bit before you run off the cliff with the baby in your arms. First consider who you’re listening to, a multimillionaire who has chosen to allegedly hide a chunk of his money either in Swiss banks or banks in the Cayman Islands or in both places instead of keeping it here and producing jobs in this country. Then, listen to who he is quoting when he talks about problems with the economy, business owners complaining about regulations reducing their profits. Because once they get more profits then they share the wealth by hiring more employees? Hey, I remember those lyrics from an old song .. what is it.. ohhh … yes, that’s it, “Voodoo Economics” that’s it. It was a big hit for a little while back in the eighties, but didn’t last very long. There was another cover of that song by the Bush Administration but it tanked, literally.

Oh yeah, and those regulations. Well, you remember that little bitty accident that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico? Regulations may well have been helpful in this case don’t you think?  But, even closer to home, when you get that job and the employer is sending you into a deep hole somewhere to dig coal without proper ventilation, not furnishing you with safety goggles while using a grinder, or allowing companies to discharge toxic substances next to your backyard, than you might use a regulation or two, or three. You see it’s all in how you look at it and who you are.

Here is my take on good old Mitt: If you don’t have a job when he takes office, don’t expect to go to work right away. Trust me. Had the Republicans worked with Obama the economy would be in better shape than it is, still not great but better. When Romney gets in office the only thing the average person is going to see is the rich getting even richer and any benefits for the older and the poor have been cut to the bone. If he does repeal the health care act as he promises it will create chaos in the heath care business and in the lives of people who can least afford it. Our foreign policy will suffer greatly and our involvement in the Middle East will increase instead of decrease. It will not take long before America will learn why Mitt Romney doesn’t try to run on his record as governor of Massachusetts and the people there wouldn’t have him as a senator.  Just ask the employees of companies taken over by Bain Capital how they feel about Mr. Romney.

Above all there is one thing people need to understand:

Running this country is not like running a company. You can’t just fire citizens and people in uniform really die in conflicts if you are wrong. Just ask George Bush.

What do you think?  Is Mitt Romney your man for the Oval Office?

Thanks Erin. I sure wish some of the less enlightened of the electorate would wake up and smell the coffee.
