Barack Obama: A Birth in Kenya

Read Time:3 Minute, 23 Second

On August 4th, 1961, a Kansas woman, Stanley Ann Dunham, gave birth to a baby boy. She named him after his father, Barack, and chose his middle name, Hussein, in honor of his grandfather. Barack Obama, Sr. was a Luo from Nyang’oma, Nyanza Province, Kenya.

Barack Obama, Jr. was born in Mombasa, at the Coast Province General Hospital. His mother, Stanley Ann had traveled to Kenya to meet her husband’s family, but that meeting did not go well. Barack Obama, Sr.’s family was not pleased that he had married a white woman, and Ann (the name she preferred) planned to return home to Hawaii where she was living at the time of her pregnancy. In her delicate condition, however, the airlines would not allow her to fly, and she was forced to stay in Kenya.

Ann Dunham had no plans to give birth to her son in Kenya. However, as many of us know, Mother Nature is in charge when it comes to childbirth. Ann Dunham went into labor, was admitted to the Coast Province General Hospital, and gave birth to a future president. Many family members were present at the birth, including two of President Obama’s half siblings, and Sarah Obama, his paternal step-grandmother.

Sarah Obama, President Obama’s paternal grandfather’s third wife, remembers fondly the day her step-grandson was born. She and President Obama have always had a close relationship; in Dreams of My Father, President Obama refers to Sarah Obama as “Granny,” and speaks of visiting her in his native Kenya. Sarah Obama has visited America on three occasions, and she and her step-grandson speak through an interpreter.

In 2008, an American Christian minister named Ron McRae had the honor of speaking with Sarah Obama over the telephone. Again, through an interpreter, Mrs. Obama shared her pride and joy of having a grandson who had grown up to be President of the United States. During this interview, which is available online, one can hear the love and excitement in Granny Obama’s voice. In fact, many in the Kenyan government are anxious to erect a shrine to their native son, promoting President Obama’s accomplishments. As Kenyan MP, James Orengo said, “How could a young man born here in Kenya, who is not even a native American, become the president of America?”

There have been many conspiracy theories surrounding the birthplace of our 44th president. Many people have questioned the legitimacy of his birth certificate, and numerous websites claim they have the “truth.” Well, listening to the pride of Granny Obama and the others who remember that wonderful August day in Mombasa, when a future president was born to Ann Dunham and Barack Obama, Sr., it’s hard to buy into any of those “theories.” These are proud people, people who are amazed that one of their own, an African boy, grew up to be President of the United States.

Ann Dunham passed away in 1995, and never saw her son’s election. She would have been incredibly proud, proud of her amazing child, born in a Kenyan hopsital. President Obama’s maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, did live long enough to see her grandson become the 44th President of the United States, and so has “Granny” Sarah Obama.

Update: At the time of the writing of this article, it has been claimed that President Obama was born in “Hawaii.” After checking with numerous sources (Tea Party Patriots, Orly Taitz, Sheriff Joe Arpaio), it seems that this village of “Hawaii” is, in fact, a suburb of Mombasa, Kenya. We realize that Africa is a huge continent, and it is hard to keep track of all the towns. So, congratulations to Hawaii for being the authentic, African birthplace of our 44th president!

I knew it. I’m off to freeper sites to let them know this whole, PO is rightful president has been exposed. Thanks Erin. I will, of course, give you the credit for the find. Maybe there’s a reward or something. Breitbart still being dead is a good one. Too soon? Hey you cannot do the wombat ref till you do the Johnny Depp one missy 😉

Yes ma’am. I’m trying to work Mr. Depp into an article about summer soups without having to change the page rating from PG-13 to holy shit that’s porn.

Never too soon for Breitbart. Who said that.

Erin, Superb post, beautifully imagined and written, though I was hoping for an odd wombat reference hidden somewhere deep inside.

Keep up the good work.

What’s hilarious to me is that there are people who will read this and thinks it’s “real.” I mean, Orly Taitz and Hawaii being a suburb of Kenya? Oy!

The distance between Honolulu and Nairobi is 10,762.3 miles, close enough for Orly Taitz.

As a Canadian, I wouldn’t care where the U.S. President was born. As long, as he wasn’t like George W. Bonehead who ruled for 8 years. It is still beyond me and many Canadians how so many Americans can be so bigoted, hateful, and racist towards what I see as a wonderful man and a great President of what used to be the most respected and envied country in the world. Once our eyes are open as to how American politicians, especially the GOP look at the rest of the world (as natural resources up for grabs), we really don’t want to be like them. signed: a Humanist.
P.S. Hope Barack Hussein Obama wins the next election. Otherwise I’m building a 30 foot fence between our two countries with the aid of people who care. Something like the one Americans have built along the Mexican – American border.

As an American that feels the same way you do, I would like to volunteer to help you build that fence…from your side.

It is really the fence along the MEXICAN-STATIAN border, because AMERICANS are the nationals of around 30 countries in this part of the world, including Canadians. And I agree, the GOP is the worst stinking trash I have ever seen when talking about politicians.
