Chick-fil-A is Haven for Hate Filled Hypocrites

Read Time:2 Minute, 34 Second

There are those companies that go out of their way to stay quiet on hot-button social issues for fear of driving off customers, but you can’t say the same for Chick-fil-A, a bible banging chicken outlet that peddles hate alongside deep fried nuggets.

The Jesus jumpers’ restaurant is extremely popular in the Deep South where there’s a church on every corner and a hypocrite behind every tree.  The fast food outlet isn’t open on Sundays, however, out of respect for the beard in the sky.  Apparently God condemns the eating of chicken on His day.

The company president wants the fast-food chain to be known for serving up Christian values along with juicy chicken sandwiches, proudly proclaiming the company’s anti-gay-marriage stance.

Now the company is reaping what it sows.

Social media circles were buzzing Wednesday about the company’s very public stance, with many users feeling obliged to pick a side. And did they ever. Many thanked the fast-food chain for voicing its support for traditional marriage, while others called for a boycott.

Chick-fil-A is “very much supportive of the family,” Dan Cathy, president of the popular fast-food chain, said in an interview with Baptist Press. That is, “the biblical definition of the family unit,” he said.

According to the Christian Post, Cathy went further during an interview on “The Ken Coleman Show,” saying, “I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.’ ” Cathy was also quoted as saying during the interview, “I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.”

Our sister blog, Money & Co., wrote about the comments in a post that has been shared more than 3,800 times on Facebook — and Tweeted and commented upon hundreds times more — just one indication of how Cathy’s comments have struck a nerve.

Among those weighing in: Food Network star and “Iron Chef” Michael Symon, who Tweeted: “remind me to never eat at chick fil a ever again.”

Ed Helms, who is best known for his work on television’s “The Office” and for his role as Dr. Stu Price in “The Hangover” films, has declared that he is boycotting Chick-fil-A.  The restaurant chain’s anti-gay marriage stance has apparently made him lose his appetite for chicken.

“Chick-fil-A doesn’t like gay people? So lame. Hate to think what they do to the gay chickens! Lost a loyal fan,” Helms tweeted Wednesday.

Here’s a sampling of how Crazy Cathy’s comments are playing out on the company Facebook page.

At one time, and I am not sure it is still so now, and it was only at two of the franchises that I know personally about, the employees had to gather for prayer before opening each morning. As I have often opined were religious beliefs are concerned, I don’t care what another person believes as long as they do impose it on me. Chik fil a is a privately owned business and may operate any way they see fit. Since I can get my over priced chicken filets just as well at Bojangles, KFC, Wendy’s, McD’s or many other places including the grocery store that is their choice. I can exercise my choice not to patronize their business, No animosity, just choice. I actually prefer Bojangles anyway and the are open 24/7/365.

They are already trying to walk this back after a smug tweet from the owner about basically pissing off the LGBT community. Here’s the attempt to fix the stupid that will not be fixed. LGBT blogs are all over this today and rightfully so. Know what though, haters always gonna hate.

Put it this way: At least Mr. Cathy* is honest about his bigotry.

*And tell me – doesn’t “Mr. Cathy” sound like something right out of “La Cage”? I normally dislike the expression “That’s so gay”, but in this case it’s the only thing that fits.

I didn’t think about this until after my comment had posted, but calling Chick-fil-A a “Haven for Hate-Filled Hypocrites” isn’t really appropriate. After all, Cathy and the people who have agreed with him aren’t pulling any punches and are open about what they are expressing. So it’s OK to call it a “Haven for Hate”, and while it might not be a popular opinion (remember what got Bill Maher kicked off ABC?) but what I’ve read so far is not hypocritical.

I think Chick-fil-A should consider opening on Sundays and close for the other six days. That way all the Churchy types would have to quit and all the unemployed atheists would have a chance of job on Sundays.

I don’t support Chick-fil-A, and I oppose their beliefs, but I respect their right to have opinions and live those out in their core business ethics and practices. That’s what makes this country interesting. We can go to the drive through at Wendy’s and have great chicken there while supporting an all American philanthropic family (of Dave Thomas) instead. 🙂

I stopped patronizing these folks several years ago when I found out they closed on Sunday. That’s just a load of bullshit.
