World’s Top 10 Pot Smoking Countries
(Newser)What sort of ranking gives its top spots to Palau, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam, and puts the US at No. 7? The list of the world’s top countries for marijuana use, reports Business Insider, based on the UN’s latest World Drug Report.
Palau dominated the rankings, with 24.2% of its population between 15 and 64 having used pot in in the last year. The United States reported just 14.1%, behind Italy, New Zealand, and Nigeria. Without further ado:
- Palau: 24.2%
- Northern Mariana Islands: 22.2%
- Guam: 18.4%
- Italy: 14.6%
- New Zealand: 14.6%
- Nigeria: 14.3%
- United States: 14.1%
- Canada: 12.7%
- Saint Kitts and Nevis: 11.7%
- Bermuda: 10.9%

Interesting that of those countries there is only one (as far as I can see) in which it is legal or decriminalised (Italy). None of the three countries in which it is legal or technically legal appear. There are a further 14 countries in which it is decriminalised: these don’t appear. So legalising pot seems to cause no explosion in its use. Yet governments like to spend millions enforcing its criminalisation and enforcement.. who are the wasters now?
I’d like to add that I’m not a pot smoker myself. But I support legalising all drugs.
I support the same thing Jennifer. This silly war on drugs is a waste of taxpayer dollars and had been as effective as policing prohibition in the early 20’s.
What about Holland? The Netherlands not on the list? Hard to believe.
