Presenting Bria and Chrissy…

When Todd Akin made “that comment,” many of us desperately sought something funny. Something a little snarky, something that made us laugh rather than punch furniture and drink. Lo and behold, we found Bria and Chrissy!

Hilarious and talented, Bria and Chrissy address serious social and political issues with angel-like singing voices, wonderful lyrics and a healthy dose of sarcasm. In other words, these two young ladies are perfect for Mad Mike’s readers. So, without further ado, I present Bria and Chrissy:

1) First, can you tell Mad Mike’s readers a little about yourselves?

We are Bria and Chrissy, a lesbian duo, who make spoof videos on serious topics, and also happen to date. Bria is an Atlanta, Ga native who makes a living as a cover musician. Chrissy born and raised in Clinton, Mississippi is an actress/model/singer. We have been dating for 10 months, playing music together about 6, and loving every second of it.

2) Your video, “Legitimate Rape” has attracted a lot of attention. What prompted you to create it?

We had already made four videos, our  “Dear Chick-Fil-A”  video received a lot of publicity and really sparked a fire within us. We looked at each other and had this realization that we really could have a voice, but not only that, we could help make a difference. We cringe at the possibility of Todd Akin coming into power, and hope our video helps others to see this is not someone they want leading them either.

3) Have you published any other videos?

We have released 5 videos to date. Money In the Caymans pokes fun of Mitt and Anne Romney, regarding their hidden tax returns and money.

In Dear Chick-Fil-A we sing mournfully at the loss of great chicken in our lives, and how we can’t eat it in anymore because we’re homosexuals.

I Have Two Moms addresses having two same sex parents, and how in some ways it can be better.  In the end though, straight parents or gay, we all the same, and our twist is that we are two mom’s to our baby cat, Liam (who makes his You Tube debut in this video).

The Rainbow Connection (the classic song, with our lyrics) pays tribute to the late Jim Henson, and thanks the company for their support towards gay people when they decided to cut their ties with Chick-Fil-A.

Legitimate Rape takes a recent statement by Todd Akin, and twists it in a way, in hopes of enlightening people that this could potentially be a person in power and that scares us.

4) As a lesbian couple who is very public about your relationship, do you ever run into any backlash for your videos, and the kiss you share at the end?

It’s been very mixed. Thankfully it has taken a more positive turn in the last two days, because the first responses were pretty brutal. Here are a couple of example of some of the things people have said to us: “You guys are just a couple of trash digging f*g got psychopath, homosexual whores, cool hope you get HIV bitch” or “Ohh gross I thought lesbians were supposed to be hot”, “what awkward kissing”, “They’re ugly”, the list goes on and on.  But it’s when we read comments like this, “You two make a beautiful couple and what you’re doing is helping more people than you know. Thank you,” We’ve also had multiple people come out to us on Facebook, and young teens reaching out to us for support as they find themselves, that it makes all the harassment worth it.

5) To each of you-what are your thoughts on Todd Akin’s statements, and the rhetoric coming from certain politicians and pundits concerning sexual assault?

Bria- It’s terrifying.  I would like Paul Ryan to explain the difference between forcible rape and regular rape.
Chrissy- It’s concerning how many prominent people (ex. Mike Huckabee) have come to Akin’s defense.

6) Finally, do you have any projects in the works that we can look for in the future?

We have a few new idea’s we are working on, two in particular that we are excited about. We enjoy making light of serious matters, to get our point across. We do plan on releasing a couple of videos that are serious, but for the most part we will remain true to our roots. In the near future we will be releasing original pop-electric songs on our page as well. So stay tuned for that! But for now we love that there is a great avenue for our creativity and for our voice! Many, many, more videos to come!
