Republicans, Romney, Ryan, and Friends

Read Time:5 Minute, 10 Second

Once again I dare to poke my head out with a few words on the current state of the political landscape. It is no longer necessary for those of us with even a scintilla of intelligence to continue to pound out the message that Romney is slippery as an eel and as toxic as the drinking water at ground zero during the Chernobyl meltdown.

Those that still believe he is the answer to the problems of our country are either the very rich, the very ignorant, or people who still think that the Ford Edsel was the finest car ever built. Even those that simply say that anyone is better than Obama falls into one of those groups. This does not mean that I am implying that Romney is an evil person, because I, nor most of the country for that matter, know him well enough to know if he is evil. Therein lies the problem.

Mitt Romney does not want to be known by the people he wishes to govern, nor does he want to know them. We, as a people, are simply too far beneath he and his family to be known or to know him. He is, in his own mind, royalty and we are the peasants to be summarily dismissed with a wave of his hand. I think that could not been more clearly shown than during his wife’s interview when she referred to the reporters as “you people”. She didn’t just mean the reporters, she meant everyone. It is simply a state of mind with Mitt. Where politics are concerned I am sure that he feels that he can choose to believe what he wants and not be held accountable for it because of who he is and his status. He can choose to tell the people in Massachusetts what he thinks they want to hear and tell people in South Carolina exactly the opposite and it is OK. In his stratosphere of life he can do no wrong anymore than a king or a dictator could do during their absolute rule over their domain. Chill people, it is what it is, and who are you peons to suggest otherwise. It is the same deal with the taxes. Live with it, get over it, just go stick your head in the sand.

So far though, people have said he hasn’t defined himself enough. No one truly understands this great tax plan he keeps talking about and, quite frankly, neither does he. But then again, he doesn’t have to because it will be what he decides it will be when he decides it will be. He plans to rule the country much like Prince, later King, John did while Richard was off fighting the crusades and then after his death. He will leave the petty stuff to his various Sheriffs of Nottingham. But to show everyone that he does have a budget plan, he goes out and drafts one. How, well he takes on Paul Ryan to be his Sheriff in Chief (aka VP candidate) as his running mate who just happens to have a budget plan of sorts.

The fact that the budget plan of Ryan’s is the most radical budget proposal to be put forth in the last two centuries doesn’t matter. Romney now has a budget plan. Is it one that he will stick to, who knows, but he now has one with details, that’s all that counts. Ryan, the young congressman from Wisconsin is grinning from ear to ear. He has been noticed from “on high”. He feels like a kid with a new toy and the way he and Romney embraced on stage it was like, “Daddy, I love you. Thank you for liking my science project.” The harsh reality Paul, is that you are just another little tool for Mitt to use to get what he wants. Ryan will calm the waters of the far right wing toward him and allow him to keep sliding along toward the election.

Meanwhile, back at the Tea Party head quarters (soon to be known as the Romney’s house of Barons and Earls) they are ecstatic, jumping for Joy, til she leaves, then they will go for Mary. Remember the television ad where the right wing nuts were pushing the elderly woman over the cliff in a wheel chair. Word has it that Paul Ryan has already designed an express lane to be built at said cliff so there is no waiting.

So, as I said at the beginning, we have all said every bad thing we can say about Romney. Going forward, other than reminding people of just who Romney and Paul are and what they stand for, the primary focus for folks like us is turning out our friends to vote for Obama in November. That is our issue, not the badness of the other candidates. Trust me. Those committed to those two are not going to change their minds. They are dancing the dance of the “Sugar Plum Fairies” with euphoria. Their base is fired up. We must do the same by simply encouraging folks of similar thinking as us to go vote.

The Republicans have drawn their line in the sand, albeit, that Romney’s line is really more like following a stock price chart on a jumpy day on Wall Street. I really do not care much for Ann Coulter but I think she got it right; Mitt Romney just handed us the election, we just have to be sharp and dedicated enough to take it.

The winning of this election now rests on two premises: (1) Getting the Democratic and Progressives out to vote. This includes helping those that the Republicans are trying to disenfranchise from voting; and, (2) Making sure that 6 – 10% of the independents understand exactly what is at stake here. Romney has made himself clear. He is going to turn the country over to the right wing nuts while stands around and plays King.
