A Christian Scientist Explains God

Read Time:4 Minute, 35 Second

According to Christianity, God lives outside of time. Time does not faze him and he always has been and always will be.

An article argues, “In contrast, there is good evidence that the universe had a beginning. This can be shown from the Laws of Thermodynamics, the most fundamental laws of the physical sciences. 1st Law: The total amount of mass-energy in the universe is constant. 2nd Law: The amount of energy available for work is running out, or entropy is increasing to a maximum.

If the total amount of mass-energy is limited, and the amount of usable energy is decreasing, then the universe cannot have existed forever, otherwise it would already have exhausted all usable energy the heat death of the universe. For example, all radioactive atoms would have decayed, every part of the universe would be the same temperature, and no further work would be possible.

So the obvious corollary is that the universe began a finite time ago with a lot of usable energy, and is now running down.”

In an earlier article Does A Timeless Universe Prove There’s No God  I pointed out that scientists discovered Black Holes devouring planets and their energy to a point of singularity, which then tosses the matter out of a White Hole into another Universe. Renewable energy.

The writer of this article is wrong in that there are 4 laws of thermodynamics, not two. Plus, the laws of thermodynamics do not mention anything about the universe. It does mention mechanical energy.

The writer goes on to say, “the universe cannot be self-caused nothing can create itself, because that would mean that it existed before it came into existence, which is a logical absurdity.” Then, he goes on to say, “God, as creator of time, is outside of time. Since therefore He has no beginning in time, He has always existed, so doesn’t need a cause.”

Didn’t the writer say nothing can create itself? If nothing can create itself, then God cannot exist. The writer cannot have it both ways. He cannot say this deity is exempt from all the laws of the Universe simply because “he is”.

This is the main argument between believers and non-believers. The believers say “God is infinite while the Universe is finite and one day we, too, shall live in his kingdom”. Non-believers using logic contend God had to come from someplace. The universe is made up of matter which we are only now beginning to understand. We are discovering particles which take us back to when the Universe first expanded, particles which travel faster than we can imagine. Thanks to research we now know our bodies are made of the same substances as stars.

Christian Scientists will take established schools of thought and twist them so they fit into their beliefs found in the bible. They will use just enough science to sound plausible and that is as far as they will go.

In this article, the author mentions Carl Sagan and Issac Asimov as Atheists when in fact Carl Sagan was Jewish and so was Issac Asimov (Oscillating universe ideas were popularized by atheists like the late Carl Sagan and Isaac Asimov solely to avoid the notion of a beginning, with its implications of a Creator.)

Also the notion the Universe is running out of energy is just plain wrong. Astronomers have estimated there are billions and billions of suns out in the universe with more being born everyday. Each sun is a thermonuclear reactor giving off mass amounts of energy. There are nebula’s full of energy, star clusters full of energy and all of this is powered by radiation in one form or another.

The author signs off  with this nugget, “The Bible informs us that time is a dimension that God created, into which man was subjected. It even tells us that one day time will no longer exist. That will be called “eternity.” God Himself dwells outside of the dimension He created (2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 1:2). He dwells in eternity and is not subject to time. God spoke history before it came into being. He can move through time as a man flips through a history book.

Because we live in the dimension of time, it is impossible for us to fully understand anything that does not have a beginning and an end. Simply accept that fact, and believe the concept of God’s eternal nature the same way you believe the concept of space having no beginning and end—by faith—even though such thoughts put a strain on our distinctly insufficient cerebrum.”

He then tosses what he thinks is a zinger by saying, “Unfortunately they are too friendly towards the unscriptural big bang theory with its billions of years of death, suffering and disease before Adam’s sin. But the above arguments are perfectly consistent with a recent creation in six consecutive normal days, as taught by Scripture.”

Apparently the writer is not as familiar with the Bible as he thinks he is, Peter 3:8 which tells us, “With the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” A thousand years does not make a normal day in my book.

You know, as we brilliant people sit here and ponder these things we cannot even be sure that there is only one universe. We have a universe, but we use that in reference to ascertain what our minds can deal with even in the abstract. We have a great deal of trouble believing that there is possibly a fourth dimension, if there is one. I think that it is entirely possible that there are several universes with other dimensions or time warps. I am probably wrong but I can’t prove it yet.

Bill once again we are thinking alike. I have long thought that there could well be multiple universes.

It’s “faze”, not “phase”.

faze (third-person singular simple present fazes, present participle fazing, simple past and past participle fazed)

{informal) To frighten or cause hesitation; to daunt, put off (usually used in the negative), to perturb, to disconcert.

Jumping out of an airplane does not faze him, yet he is afraid to ride a roller coaster.

You are absolutely right E.A. and I can’t believe that was missed during the editing process. It is now, however, fixed. Thanks.

Just as part of a tangent, Judaism and Atheism are not necessarily totally distinct. One can be Jewish AND an atheist, at least Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructionist. I DOUBT that someone can be both an Orthodox Jew and atheistic at the same time, but I don’t know (not being Orthodox, I’m not sure of any of their beliefs). Judaism does NOT have a credo or a statement of belief in God.

Furthermore, while Isaac Asimov may have been jewish by heritage, he was, in fact, an atheist in practice, and never hesitated to identify himself as such.

Rick you are absolutely right because that’s what happened. Constantine decided that he needed to adopt this new gang calling themselves Christians so he (and the senate) made Jesus and Mary divine, even coming up with the whole virgin birth nonsense, and the resurrection. As a result the Christians adopted him and things settled down, at least for a while.

One thing my evolved brain truly believes is that bible god does not exist. A god that cruel does not deserve to be called god but rather tyrant, monster or both. Roman emperor Constantine was so tired of the infighting among the different religious sects he had to pick one to calm things down. Imagine if he’d have picked a different sect to believe in. We might have created our civilization on quite different beliefs than what we continue to fight over today.
