Obama Would Win in Landslide..If Only Women Voted

If only women voted, President Obama would be on track for a landslide re-election, equaling or exceeding his margin of victory over John McCain in 2008. Mr. Obama would be an overwhelming favorite in Ohio, Florida, Virginia and most every other place that is conventionally considered a swing state. The only question would be whether he could forge ahead into traditionally red states, like Georgia, Montana and Arizona.

If only men voted, Mr. Obama would be biding his time until a crushing defeat at the hands of Mitt Romney, who might win by a similar margin to the one Ronald Reagan realized over Jimmy Carter in 1980. Only California, Illinois, Hawaii and a few states in the Northeast could be considered safely Democratic. Every other state would lean red, or would at least be a toss-up.

Although polls disagree on the exact magnitude of the gender gap (and a couple of recent ones seemed to show Mitt Romney eliminating the president’s advantage with women voters), the consensus of surveys points to a large one this year — rivaling the biggest from past elections.

The gender gap is nothing new in American politics. Since 1972, when exit polling became widespread, men and women split their votes in three elections: 1996, 2000, and 2004. They came close to doing so on several other occasions. In 2008, for example, Mr. Obama won resoundingly among women, beating Mr. McCain by 13 points, but only won by a single point among men.

The biggest gender gap to date in the exit polls came in 2000, when Al Gore won by 11 points among women, but George W. Bush won by 9 points among men — a 20-point difference. The numbers this year look very close to that.

The premise that all smart Christians, Jews, Moslems or atheists vote any particular way is fundamentally flawed. Sarah’s wrinkle on the premise amounts to saying that anyone who doesn’t vote my way is stupid or not a “true believer” (or worse yet, a male).

I am glad to know smart women and men of all denominations or none at all will vote for each candidate.

To clarify-my comments are only about conservative Christians. I know many, many liberal Christians who are kind, loving and would disagree wholeheartedly with Sarah.

Oops, sorry Devon, to take away from your great post. If it is any indication, most of the people I have been registering to vote these last few weekends have been predominantly those of us who are gyno Americans. I’ll be voting for O-Joe again because of some things and am still bent about others but that is how it goes right.

All of your replies to the conservative christain (intentional) above, leave me no reply because you all have said what I would say. I would have used cuss words had I replied, you are all a lot kinder than I am.

aw hell, who am I kidding, Sarah you are the person that would have led people to their death or to an interment camp in another era, saying you were only doing what you were told, following orders. My uterus is not a clown car, nor does it belong to anyone else. When I decide to have kids, it will be because my husband and I want them, therefore I use slut pills which you idiots equate to abortion, to PLAN PARENTHOOD. You all go on and on about teenage pregnancy being so awful, oh she must have been a slut or whatever, then when one of your own gets to knocking boots and gets pregnant, she made her choice to have her child. What kind of utter bullshit is that? You cannot have it both ways on choice, if someone decides to have a kids. You fuckers need to keep your rosaries off my ovaries. Same for the same sex argument, if you don’t like gay marriage, don’t date gay people and then marry them. It is THAT SIMPLE, I do not know why you people cannot get that through your thick skulls.

Well Sarah, you certainly are welcome to your own opinion… but not your own facts. You are incorrect about most women (especially educated women) voting Republican. Obama had a 17 point lead in 2008 for woman voters. Studies also show that the more education people have, the more they vote Democratic and Liberal.

Planned Parenthood PREVENTS far more abortions than they PERFORM. Abortions only make up 3% of their service offerings. So you’re chastising an entire organization because you disagree with a mere 3% of what they do? I bet you disagree with more than 3% of what your husband does or thinks… or 3% of your church for that matter!

One only needs to look at a persons ACTIONS to see what they really are about. President Obama has acted like more of a Christian than any President I can recall. Do you really think Christ would be AGAINST helping the poor and needy with things like food stamps and healthcare??? Or do you really think Christ would ‘pal around’ with the NRA folks? What kind of gun would Jesus own? He wouldn’t– and you know it.

It’s apparent you don’t believe President Obama is a Christian… even though he says and acts as one… yet you support Romney— who doesn’t act or claim to be a Christian. He is a Mormon – NOT a Christian. Do some research on his cult (yes- his church is classified as a CULT). Any Christian that has been to church on a regular basis over the last 50 years has clearly been informed about the Mormons and how they are NOT Christians.

Since you dislike ‘socialism’ so much, I assume you will refrain from using ANY of the following services: Roads, Bridges, Police, Fire, Ambulance, Hospitals, Schools, Libraries, Airports, Internet, Phones, Trains, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, State Parks, National Parks, TV, Weather alerts, Radio, etc…… These are ALL things that are SOCIALIZED and may not exist without the ‘gubment’ at least getting them started… and most still rely greatly on the ‘gubment’ to run— for the benefit of ALL.

This is for Sarah:

Sarah, I am a woman. I am a mother. I am informed, and I’d be willing to bet that I’m at least as educated as you are, if the lack of proof-reading skills so evident in your remarks is any indication. I am even, if pressed to define my faith, a Christian. I will NEVER vote for a ticket that includes those who think that government should keep its hands off everything EXCEPT my uterus. I am sick, sick, sick of being told (because I live in a red state, God help me) that I have no values because I believe in the right of a woman to choose what happens to her own body. I am disgusted that any woman in this country could possibly think of voting for the Romney/Ryan ticket. Ryan said, when asked if he supported the right to an abortion in the event of rape, that “the manner of conception” does NOT matter. And don’t even get me started on how many different and diametrically opposing “stands” that Mr. Flip-Flop Romney has taken on this issue. Seriously? If you truly think that Mitt Romney will end abortion rights in this country–or even make the attempt to do so, you are deluding yourself. I won’t have the last word on this, because I feel sure that if you read this you will feel compelled to answer. I have found, however, that trying to debate those who are willfully ignorant is fruitless. So, Sarah, you go on telling yourself that Mitt Romney is telling you the truth. You go on believing that women who vote for President Obama are ignorant, uninformed heathens. Maybe that will keep the hate you obviously feel for the black guy in the White House stoked. I’ll just sit over here in my little corner of the world–continuing to educate myself on the issues and supporting the candidates who want to take America into the future with equal rights for everyone, adequate health care for even the poorest among us, and recognizing the rights of women to control her own body.

Women do vote. And when an informed, educated, Christian woman votes, she votes Republican. Democrats are talking about this ‘war on women,’ yet Republicans are now getting more of the vote of women. Many people seem to think that the whole planned parenthood issue dictates who a woman should vote for. That is simply not so. Planned Parenthood is one of THE most corrupt organizations in this country. Not to mention the fact that it provides abortions. Any woman that has had a child simply cannot stand for abortion, certainly not late-term abortions, if she has seen her child on an ultra sound. Any woman, or man for that matter, that has done research on the candidates, cannot vote for Obama. Any hard working, red blooded American, male or female, will vote for Romney/Ryan to get this country headed back in the right direction and away from the socialist path it is on.

The operative word here is “Christian.” Anyone who believes in the beard in the sky cannot be expected to believe in a common sense choice for president.

To call Planned Parenthood “one of THE most corrupt organizations in this country” speaks volumes about your ability to reason. Abortion is not illegal in this country and it shouldn’t be. Destroying a random collection of cells is not killing a human being, just a collection of cells. Late term abortion on the other hand is not legal, except under certain medical conditions.

As to socialism, I defy you to tell us what that means. You Republican Christians throw that word around and yet haven’t the slightest idea what it means.

Finally, Barack Obama will beat Mitt Romney on November 6th, despite the hate filled propaganda being spread by “Christians” like yourself. The fact is there are more intelligent, right thinking people in America than there are people like you, and for that we are fortunate.

I must tell you something I’ve recently discovered Mike… and that is LIBERAL Christians. I also painted Christians with a broad brush (as you no doubt have seen from my various FB posts), but I have interacted with Liberal Christians lately and have been pretty amazed in their reasoning skills and rational thoughts pertaining to many social justice issues.

My girlfriend is a prime example of a liberal Christian. Her church (Episcopal) is filled with mostly Obama voters. The Father at the church is gay and has a partner he has been with for 13 years. They strongly support the healthcare act and various other social justice issues that Obama promotes. They are pro-choice for the most part. They are more about the mission of helping others than just pushing their beliefs onto others or judging them.

Yes, they still believe in the scripture and as you and I would say “Their imaginary friend in the sky”… but they do seem to be a much different variant of Christian than I was aware of. Liberal Christians… whooda thought?

Well, Sarah, I’m a woman, I’m a wife and I’m a mother. I used to be Christian until people like you with your white, conservative Jesus who hates poor people and the LGBT community drove me away. I will not vote for Mitt Romney or Ayn Rand loving Paul Ryan because I love America. See, people like you (conservative Xians who would hang the actual Jesus from a tree again) do not love America. You love your version of America, which is as twisted as your interpretation of the bible. Your version of America is the same as Charles Worley and Dennis Terry and David Barton and Glenn Beck and my generation’s Joe McCarthy, Michele Bachmann. Xians like you carved the word “faggot” on my friend’s car. Xians like you threatened my life and the life of my family. Xians like you shoot abortion providers and hang effigies of President Obama from gallows like Terry Jones did in Florida.

Your fear and hatred are unneeded and unwanted here in America. I hear Somalia is lovely this time of year-let me help you pack.

When republicans do well with women it’s because the Moms think republicans will keep their kids safer. Bush and his minions slammed this meme and it made enough difference to give him two victories.

I appreciate the rabidness of protecting Roe V Wade but kids growing up safe, happy and with opportunity will trump that with most Moms. And dads for that matter.

Romney and Bush lie like like hell but most women will never have an abortion. They’re thinking who will be better for my kids. And unfortunately republicans do a better job planting that in the heads of the electorate so too many vote on the hope that they aren’t lying.
