Questions: Obama vs Romney-Debate Number One

Read Time:2 Minute, 32 Second

The economy is important, but it’s not the only issue in America today, there are others that are equally as important.  After all, we’re still engaged in our longest war [in Afghanistan] and we need to get the hell out of there.  The president has a withdrawal calendar.  What is Romney going to do about that?  Is he going to follow Barack Obama’s timeline or does he have plans of his own?  Will he escalate the conflict to fatten the wallets of his bullet making best friends?

What about healthcare?  At present the Affordable Care Act, AKA Obamacare, is all we have to help Americans without insurance, and the rest of us who are at the mercy of the corporate monsters and their republican minions.  Will Romney try to repeal it, and if successful what will replace it?  More vouchers, tax cuts, and etc., all designed to pad the pockets of his big business buddies?

Now, to the economy, that ever present, always ready bug-a-boo that’s haunted incumbent presidents since George Washington.  The monetary state of a nation is critical to the big win, and no president has ever won with unemployment above 8%, although the polls seem to indicate Obama might be the exception.  Romney is intent on cutting taxes, again and still, cutting, cutting, cutting and each time that blade strikes home the nation bleeds.  Although he claims that he will relieve the wealthy, like him, of much cherished deductions and tax breaks, he can’t tell us how that will reduce the deficit, just that it will.  Does that sound familiar sports fans?  Think George Bush and those nightmare years of 2000-2008.

Recently Romney was asked if his economic plan wasn’t just an extension of “trickle-down economics” a proven failure from the day of its invention to this very day.  Reluctantly he admitted that his plan was a continuation of this epic departure from common fiscal sense but added he would do it with a twist guaranteed to put Americans back to work.  When Paul Ryan, affectionately known as Gilligan, was pressed to be more specific, he said he didn’t have time to really explain it.  Will Romney find the time tonight?

No doubt tonight is important for Mitt Romney.  Like creaking floors in dark places, the whispers of defeat can be heard from Oregon to Ohio, Maine to Florida, and California to Texas.  Behind closed doors the real leaders of the GOP, the Koch Brothers, are planning their next move, hopeful that money does in fact buy all things, because if the simple freedom to vote for the best candidate, without benefit of wealth and power, is all that is left, their man is almost certain to lose in November.

Enjoy the debates and remember, despite our problems, it’s a good thing to be an American.

Roball, I agree that the President has some questions to answer also, but his biggie is how to get the Republicans in congress to stop being obstructionists. Had they not done this we would be much farther down the recovery road right now. Romney has change his positions so many times on just about everything you would think he was in a porno movie. I am waiting for him to state his positions that he will have to stick with til the election. What he says during these debates he will be stuck with period.

Good questions Mike, and I’ll be watching but expect few surprises.
