Boehner Is Crouched-Waiting To Pounce…Next Year!

Read Time:2 Minute, 26 Second

What is John Boehner waiting for? Why is he holding America hostage by not making a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff? He is waiting until he is re-elected and is hunting for the big prize which is his seat at the head of the table.

As America heads for a certain looming crisis, Mr. Boehner is apparently more concerned about his job than the job that the American people sent him there to do. He is poised to do something about the fiscal cliff… after January 3rd 2013, not before.

John Boehner is himself pursued in the shadows by one who seems to carry an even darker side, his name being Eric Cantor. He makes Dick Cheney look like a choirboy. Cantor is a very formidable opponent and as far as I can see, the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know.

This from the WashingtonPost:

The vote to elect the next speaker is on Jan. 3. To win, you need an absolute majority of the House, not a plurality. Even a hopeless conservative challenge that attracts only a handful of Republican votes could deny Boehner the speakership until a consensus candidate emerged… A significant number of Boehner’s members clearly don’t trust his strategic instincts, they don’t feel personally bound to support him, they clearly disagree with his belief that tax rates must rise as part of a deal, and they, along with many other Republicans, must be humiliated after the shenanigans on the House floor …If a conservative spoiler runs, he or she could very possibly deny Boehner the 218 votes he needs to become speaker, clearing the way for a consensus candidate like Eric Cantor to unite the party.

I know that John Boehner is quite willing to make deals with the President on behalf of the American people, while Eric Cantor is a bit more to the right of Boehner and needs to prove himself in the ring of Speakers-past, making him more difficult for the President to make a deal with should he replace Boehner.

Apparently Speaker Boehner is not too concerned with the approaching fiscal cliff, as any deal he does make will seem like a tax hike to his base, making him more unpopular. This will mean making a deal after the fiscal cliff will become a tax cut, as tax rates would rise after the deadline is passed.

I understand his approach to the whole issue and I, for one, am seeing the ‘good’ that could come about as a result of having Mr. Boehner re-elected in lieu of a Speaker Cantor… we await the New Year and the turbulence it brings… Happy New Year everyone.

Forgive me my skepticism. IMNHO neither side of the aisle give a hoot about the cliff or the inevitable results of having the nation’s head stuck so deep in the quicksand it is beyond recovery.

The Oligarchs continue to divide and conquer. Thus ruling precisely as they have designed.

You may well be right Les.

The Tea Party republicans have to work to usurp Boehner, because their constituency will expect it.

The rumors are hot and heavy on the beltway that Boehner is history. That remains to be seen of course, but I think it’s a strong possibility, even if we do go off that freakin’ cliff.

Boehner is toast, pure and simple. He couldn’t deliver and he’s pissed off the hard right ideologues.

Good points here Bill. I do think they will move against the speaker, and that could leave us with Eric Cantor, asshole extraordinaire.

Tee, it isn’t going to get any better for Boehner, trust me. The new Republican House is not much better than the last and Cantor really doesn’t want the leadership position, at least right now. It is a losing position in the face of the currently situation. In fact McConnell really doesn’t want to be where he is right now. The Republican congress knows the the best thing to do is cut the best deal with the USPOTUS and move to other issues that they might get some traction on, but the ultra right wingers won’t let them. Boehner may be a bit frightened but he would be better served showing courage and backbone and cutting the deal and let each representative fall on their own sword for Grover Norquist. Let each and everyone of the miscreants show themselves in public then we can move own to many other needed projects.
