I’ve an idea this is a bad, bad idea from a socio-sexual standpoint.

Another barrier to full equality dismantled. Women who are already in combat deserve equal pay and opportunity for equal work. And the military’s acknowledgement of this obvious fact, may lead the way in the private sector.

Let’s hope this doesn’t become a case of ‘be careful what you ask for.’ As I understand it, men generally don’t have a choice of assignment except through considerable care at the point of enlistment. Many are assigned to combat positions regardless of preference — or by default. Question: Will women be arbitrarily assigned to the infantry, or will they have a choice? Question: What happens if we ever have to re-institute the draft?

A primary reason for bring this in to play is that being in combat is necessary to achieve the highest ranks in the military. That is necessary so that no upper level commander without combat experience will be combat troops into combat. In order to be fair we have one of two choices. Change the rules about promotions or allow women in combat. Considering the number of women who are currently injured in combat zones I think those who are capable should be allowed to serve in combat. This argument is similar to the one they used to have regarding women in police work. That has worked out pretty well.

America has embarrassed the world for years, but now this is one less thing to be embarrassed about. Congratulations America.
