It seems if church leaders aren’t busy covering up child molestation by priests they are intent on stopping legislation that is designed to reduce the surplus population and cut down on incidents of sexually transmitted disease.
Knowing that Catholic bishops opposed an ObamaCare mandate on contraception, the White House recently moved to change the rule—but the new package hasn’t satisfied the religious leaders, the New York Times reports. The deal would allow women employed by a religiously-affiliated employer, such as a Catholic hospital, to get free contraception under a separate insurance policy paid for by their insurance provider. Among bishops’ concerns: The compromise doesn’t apply to a wide enough arena of religious employers, they said yesterday after six days spent studying the proposal.
Why should the WH give a shit about what the Catholics want? It’s not as if they supported the president in record numbers. They actually spoke against him from their pulpits.
The bishops noted that it still doesn’t accommodate secular businesses whose owners hold religious objections to contraception; the rule also seems to “require all employees … to have the illicit coverage—they may not opt out,” Cardinal Timothy Dolan said, per NPR. Still, the bishops’ response was more “moderate and measured” this time around, the Times notes.
ALL employees, everywhere, need to be able to make this decision on their own, without untoward interference from legislators, regulators or religion.

Poor babies. They didn’t get their way again. It is so important to impose their beliefs on the rest of the world they whine and pout when they are prevented from doing it.
How long will it be before they play the persecution card? That’s what they do when they are prevented from persecuting others.

It will be just a matter of time James. They are colossal whiners with a reputation to boot.

Practically every Catholic woman under 45 is on birth control. One of the largest religious groups in the world is ex Catholics.
It’s the church hierarchy running Catholics away with their Obamaphobia. I suppose it’s because rich catholics hate President Obama and church is political. You have to suck up to the big donors. But just as the pandering to extremists and kooks is destroying the republicsn party, so shall it destroy the Catholic Church.
Damn shame. A well run mass in a cool church is a sight to see.

Joe I must confess (no pun intended)I agree with you when it comes to the pomp and spectacle of a High Mass. As a former Altar Boy (yep) I served at any number of them.

As long as they keep it 45 minutes or less. Longer than that they’re just being pompous assholes.

Agreed, and I remember some of those Super High Masses (forgot the actual name) going for almost two hours. Lots of incense inhaled.

Substitute Catholic bishop with Moslem Mullah and you would see people getting all bent about our rights being taken away by religious freaks. Why they can get away with this is beyond me. Having watched Mea Maxima Culpa on HBO other day and how the bishops here are loyal to Rome and no one else, this is officially really pissing me off.

I still don’t understand why we do not tell the Catholic church that they, as a member of the United Nations, need to keep their noses out our country’s business. While the Catholic Churches in America are protected by the First Amendment that doesn’t apply to the Roman Catholic Church which is recognize as an international entity.

Considering they have a long record of methodically protecting child molesters, they might be named as a terrorist state. If you want to be legally recognized as a nation, you have to take the possible hits that come with that.
What’s the worst that could happen? They withdraw from the UN?
