What a world it is when the Chinese determine that some of the world’s brightest, most gentle breed of dogs are just too big for city living, and hunt them down and kill them, later to be fed to fat and happy patrons at local restaurants, despite a ban on such practices.

Declaring breeds such as golden retrievers, Labradors, Dalmatians, collies and any dog taller than 13.7 inches as “large and vicious dogs,” and not appropriate for city living, they have started enforcing the long standing prohibition.

The law isn’t new, but the enforcement of it is, and now cops are raiding homes where the ‘rogue’ breeds live, seizing the dogs from their owners—even taking animals that are actually registered with authorities, the New York Times reports. “I feel like we’re living in one of those war movies in which the Communists are searching for the Japanese and threatening to wipe them out,” says a woman who owns a golden retriever. “How can the government be so cruel?”

Terrified dog owners are now keeping their pets hidden, while those who can afford it are housing them at farms and kennels outside the city. Animal rights advocates say the seized dogs will most likely end up being sold for meat. “We wish the police could find a more humane way to deal with this issue,” says a spokesperson from Animals Asia.

What kind of a world is this where such cruelty and ignorance abound?

OMG! What? The thought of this breaks my heart for a lot of reasons but particularly because we have a beautiful golden retriever and I can tell you what wonderful, sweet dogs they are.

Man, I am as rabid about my dog as the gun nuts are about their guns. I guess I would have to get me an assault rifle and protect my dog. Over my dead body you will take my dog. Which I am sure they would oblige me.

I never go beyond ‘egg fried rice with curry sauce’ anyway – I always wondered why that was the case. I’ve possibly found the reason.

Prince Philip would say ‘Slitty eyed bastards!!’ but, as this is MMA and I’m not Prince Philip I will settle for just ‘bastards’ eh?

    Same difference.
