America’s Second Amendment Kills Another Good Samaritan
If you live in America you can own a gun. You can own a handgun, or a semi-automatic assault rifle, as well as any number of weapons designed to kill people. According to the gun nuts and the terrified sheep that represent them in congress, owning a gun is a constitutional right, and every one must exercise that right, even if they’re not so inclined.
As a result hundreds, if not thousands of innocent people across the nation die from gun inflicted wounds. Sometimes it’s criminals killing criminals, which reduces the surplus population of criminals and is quite acceptable, but more often than not it’s children killing children and neighbor killing neighbor because of carelessness, negligence, or just plain ignorance. In some cases it’s being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
When Jesus Solis saw three men forcing a woman to dance with them at a Texas sports bar around 2am yesterday, he was quick to come to the woman’s defense. It was a move that ultimately proved deadly. The owner of Vara’s Sports Bar in Houston says Solis, 39, was a regular customer, and that he told the men the woman had a boyfriend as he stepped in to help, KTRK reports. One of the men then reportedly went outside to get a gun; witnesses say a fight broke out, and one of the suspects shot Solis in the leg then fired again as Solis walked away, killing the Good Samaritan.
This could have been worse if the victim had his own gun, and a good ole fashioned wild, wild west shootout had taken place. Just imagine bullets going everywhere, patrons dropping like flies. That’s what fanatics like Wayne LaPierre want to see: everyone with a gun, ready to kill at a moment’s notice. It’s their constitutional right after all.
Police are looking for the shooter and the men who accompanied him, none of whom Solis is thought to have known. Vara’s owner says the incident occurred as customers were being let out, and adds that the suspect left a bloody shirt behind, the Houston Chronicle reports. “The individuals entered the bar close to closing time [and] immediately began to confront bar patrons that were already inside,” confirms a sergeant. (It was a bad week for Good Samaritans: The Georgia man who was paralyzed in early June while trying to save a young girl died Friday.)

Thanks for this. One point, however: you are greatly underestimating the number of innocents who are killed by guns. Plus, the number of guns suicides is almost double the number of gun homicides. And most people who kill themselves with guns would not do it by other means. Most suicides are impetuous. That’s why gun purchase waiting periods reduce suicides.
Of course, there is nothing impetuous about this case. This is pure villainy that easy access to guns made tragic.
re:
>>If you live in America you can own a gun.
I wanted to point out something that I rarely see mentioned in the gun debate in this country. The NRA types claim that America alone supposedly has this sacred freedom to own guns and that’s what gives us “freedom.”
Out here in the real world, that’s B.S.
The fact is, in much of Europe, you can own a gun, too. In Germany alone (a nation with around one-fourth of America’s population) there are around 25 million registered guns in private civilian hands, according to SmallArmsSurvey.org. Many other European nations have gun rights, as well.
The difference is that, although these nations have gun rights, it’s not quite as easy to buy a gun in Germany as it is here. In Germany, if you are a known violent, insane person, or a convicted wife beater, you can’t just waltz into a gun show and easily buy an AK-47. In America, you can.
But the point is, Europeans (and people in many other nations) have gun rights, too. But unlike Americans, they don’t go running around, shouting from the rooftops how “special” they are to “enjoy the freedoms of gun rights.”
The primary focus here is owning handguns. I lived in both Germany and was born in England, and, to my knowledge, people aren’t allowed to carry guns. They’re fine for hunting, hobbies, and etc., but they’re not allowed to run around carrying .45’s unless that’s changed in the last couple of years.
steve is a moron, you are really being too kind to him.
Even morons need love patg 🙂
…”owning a gun is a constitutional right, and every one must exercise that right, even if they’re not so inclined.”
Now that’s a true statement???
“That’s what fanatics like Wayne LaPierre want to see: everyone with a gun, ready to kill at a moment’s notice. It’s their constitutional right after all.”
~~~
It’s too bad such ignorant and completely false statements undermine what could have been a half-way decent article. It might help your “cause” if you’d kinda stick to those dastardly little things called “facts”.
Thanks for your observations Steve 🙂
As much as I love America WTF?
Come on guys. Get this gun thing sorted out will you? You’re a western democracy for chrissakes!!!
Nope. No jobs in my uterus.
What astonishes me on a daily basis, yet again today from Ohio, there is big money getting people to own guns because freedum, small gubbmint and our rights and so far they are not being regulated, yet we can get to regulating the lady parts all over this country with the same small gubbmint. Big, HUGE problems with this I do have( said in my best Yoda voice) it is depressing every time I hear about another unnecessary gun death. When will it end, who in the hell knows but it needs to and fast.
Speaking of Ohio Jess their idiot republican governor just signed another anti-abortion bill similar to the one they’re trying to float in Texas. It may be one of the most populated states in the nation but Ohio is filled with dummies if you ask me.
That’s the one I am talking about. It all stinks of ALEC to me with damn near every GoOper governor and legislature doing the same exact thing. It’s cheaper to pay off the state people, than it is the national politicos so ALEC and the bog money donors are getting their dollar worth. They keep saying they are all about getting jobs to their locales and fixing this, that or the other. Don’t know about you, but I don’t think my uterus can provide many jobs.
The problem is, it is exceedingly difficult to convince the insane that they are insane. The concept of gun rights in this country was formed in the 18th Century, for Christsake and the very idea of gun ownership in today’s society is, well…insane.
Yes it is Beebe, and I don’t know how many decades and how many dead we’ll count before this insanity finally ends.
The NRA mantra is “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” That’s patently ridiculous as people with bloody guns kill people. The more guns, and the more people that have them means all the more people will die from a bullet.
I was just reading about a company that is giving away 40 round magazines before big brother comes to take them away in the name of freedom. Moving their company with 40 people from Connecticut, to one of the Carolinas because CT just put gun control into their laws where the Carolina’s have no such animal. There are some here, in this country, that get off on the fear porn.
You Yanks and your bloody guns. I live in England and barely remember the last time someone was killed by a gun, other than maybe the London bad bloods. Aren’t you embarrassed to know the rest of the civilised world thinks you’re all nuts?
Some of us are more than embarrassed bellthompson and sadly, we don’t have the money for lobbying that the gun makers and NRA have available to have our voices heard to fix it.
Wow! If only we had surrendered our guns prior to the American Revolution, all we’d have to offer the world is nasty cooking and a few good rock bands….btw, thanks for dropping us in the canal during WWII… What? No mention of the killings in gun free Chicago this weekend? What? No Choice now? Deny my right to bond with my sons in competitive shooting, hunting …keep your clown in chief administration in check which is what the 2nd A is for = protect against tyranny….FO. Anyone check to see if these yahoos are LEGAL? Welfare status? Govt bennies anyone?
Gunner in the house! All patriotic sounding, full of shit as always. Get a life and please don’t dishonor the Screaming Eagles with your nonsensical rants. No one is talking about banning guns, only that gun ownership should be responsible and every swinging dick carrying one isn’t responsible. No one is wanting to deny anyone the right to keep and bear arms, but the right for all people regardless of background or mental state to carry guns (note the operative word: carry) is just insane. Now go away and leave the adults alone, and again, please stop embarrassing us.
3rd Generation Screaming Eagle…37 Vets in family…doubt I’m an embarrassment to them…. Problem with civilians? Anyone can be one. FO.
The problem with people that have to constantly tell everyone how superior they are. They are not. Yes, this does include you.
You’re no smarter, better, or anything else than the general run of humanity. Only your ego is bigger, that’s all.
Maybe you’re not an embarrassment to your family, how about to rational people?
They are not just nuts!!! I am in Australia, where getting any sort of firearm is very, very difficult, as it should be! Apparently Americans believe their right to own a gun supersedes the right of other people to stay alive.
Does the NRA have to explain again the concept of “collateral damage?”
Just think, it even one other patron had a gun, the killer could have been stopped instantly. Yes, there might have been more collateral damage, but that’s a small price to pay to defend our freedom to kill at will.
