Republicans: Hillary Clinton’s Age Big Issue in 2016

Read Time:2 Minute, 17 Second

I confess.  Hillary Clinton and I are just about the same age, and no matter how you look at it youth is in our rear view mirror.  That being said, however, there is truth in the old adage that with age comes wisdom, at least in some cases, with the notable exceptions perhaps of a few politicians I know.

It’s pretty much a given, or maybe it’s just hope, that Hillary will be running for president in 2016, with the Right Wingers already loading their guns, so to speak, and they will be pointed at Hillary’s age.  Her policies, background and experience won’t be an issue.  According to the Republicans she will just be too old to conduct the duties of the president of the United States.

The GOP’s new plan of attack against Hillary Clinton, assuming she runs for president in 2016: Go after her age. A New York Times article revealed the strategy yesterday, with Karl Rove explaining the basic idea: “We’re at the end of [Clinton’s] generation and … it’s time for another to step forward.” But over at the Daily Beast, Michael Tomasky scoffs at the idea. While the strategy is not without its valid points (Clinton would turn 70 nine months into her hypothetical presidency), the bottom line is that young voters are never going to be sold on the idea that the Republican Party is the “with it” party—no matter how young the Republican candidate is.

It defies the imagination to think America’s youth, those between 18-30 who are already deserting organized religion and a mythical god, would overwhelmingly vote for a bible-banging, abortion hating, gay marriage denying conservative Christian.

Clinton will, after all, be the candidate who supports gay marriage, a path to citizenship, lower student loan rates, and more issues young people care about—”and she’ll be the candidate of the party that is not the comfortable home to America’s bigots and racists,” Tomasky writes. Yes, there will be age-related questions for her to answer, especially after her concussion last year. But ultimately, all Clinton needs to do is “be who she is”—that is, “our country’s most admired woman in 17 of the last 20 years.” Republican attacks on her age will backfire, and if the GOP really wants to become “the forward-looking party of young people,” it will need to consider some wildly unlikely policy changes.

I have no idea what Hillary’s gene pool looks like but I have a sneaking suspicion that she is in better health right now than most of the fifty year Republicans. What the Republicans do fear most than, unlike Obama, Hillary will come into office not needing any training, Obama took most of his first term trying to figure out how to deal with the Republican idiots, Hillary already knows them and how to deal with them. President Obama came in trying to be unifier, Hillary will come in as a bare knuckle brawler and the Republicans know it. She also has immediate access to one of the other most brilliant minds in politics. Bill Clinton

What you said plus having the Big Dog in the White House as first man would surely get some head exploding on the right, since those two are hated by the fright wing nutjobs. She’s got the foreign policy stuff down because of her last job, the woman will be unstoppable should she decide to do it.

Age is irrelevant. As long as her health’s ok then good luck to her. Be quite something to have a lady President over there eh? Go Hilary!

Wasn’t McCain in his 70″s? How soon they forget these republicans.

You’re right. I should have mentioned him instead of Reagan. But, as I said, the rules Rethugnicans wish to impose upon everyone else are not intended to be applied to themselves.

WTF? Wasn’t Mitt Romney 65? These crazy republicans just don’t have a clue. Hillary ’16!!!!

Rachael, Rachel, Rachael. Were you under the impression that the rules the Great Opposition Party sets for others are intended to also apply to themselves? We cannot afford to be naive about these things. 😉

Awww, look at you Rachael thinking the GoOpers would look at what they did themselves and try learning from it and correcting for it. It’s a nice dream, really it is 🙂

If we thought the attacks on Prez O were bad during that campaign it will be nothing compared to what they will do to Hillary. Sexism, misogyny and that RWNJ machine will throw everything they can at her. Thing is, if she were to get in it brings Texas, yes Texas, into play because she is beating all comers there. I hope she does decide to run, it is way past time for some shit to get done and I don’t see her backing down from anyone the way some of our politicians do. Only thing I hold against her is her vote on the Iraq war but what can you do right.

Oh I know, don’t get me wrong, I will vote for her in a heartbeat but I’m of the I’m already protesting the next war camp.

I have one word for this form of attack by the Rethugnicans, “Reagan.”

Then, STFU.
